A MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL EDWARD OWUSU

Clarksburg High School Students, Staff, and Families,

It's Kindness Week at CHS. And no, you don't a need special week to be kind, but at CHS we want to highlight acts of kindness in all we do to show its importance in well being and health for all. Daily messages and Advisory lessons are a few of what students and staff will experience this week. Enjoy!

This celebration of Ramadan has arrived and sees many of our students of Muslim faith fasting from dawn to sunset, reciting verses from the Quran and attending prayer sessions. For many of those observing Ramadan, it is a time to become closer to God. It is also a time of joy and for spending time with one’s family, and giving to charity and those in need. Ramadan Kareem!

This first full week of April we see 5 days of great instruction and sports activity. Monday, April 4, at 6:30pm in the CHS Auditorium, the Counseling Department is hosting an information night for 11th grade students and families. The presentation will review preparing for Senior year, applying to college, and available resources. Juniors, It’s time for the NACAC College Fair. CHS will visit the fair on Wednesday, April 6. Use this link for the instructions and the itinerary. Junior should reserve their seat as space is limited.

There will be a Clarksburg Cluster PTSA Townhall Meeting on April 6 at 7 pm via Zoom. We end the week on Friday and enter Spring Break and Easter Holiday. Spring Break will begin Monday, April 11 and end after Easter, April 18. Students will return to school on Tuesday April 19.

Prom season is just around the corner. This years Junior and Senior Prom will be held at the Courtyard by Marriott Gaithersburg Washingtonian Center at the RIO on April 29. Tickets will go on sale beginning April 21, after Spring Break. Tickets for PROM and POST PROM will be on sale in the auditorium concessions stand during lunch and before school (Out of school guest forms are due by April 20). Spring athletics competitions continue! Congratulation to our Boys Track & Field Team for winning the Cougar Relays this past Saturday. In addition our Girls Varsity Lacrosse Team remain undefeated in regular season play. You can see the full schedule in the newsletter of all sports teams so you can be in the stands to help cheer on our Coyotes. As a reminder, spectators and athletes should adhere to MCPS R.A.I.S.E standards of sportsmanship. That is the Clarksburg Way.

COVID still exists! Last week all students and staff received at home test kits for use prior to the return from Spring Break. Students and staff are expected to test at home using the provided kits. On Monday, April 18, families are asked to test all MCPS students using MCPS-provided rapid take-home test kits and report positive cases via our online form. If the test is positive, stay home and follow quarantine and isolation guidelines. If your child has COVID-19 symptoms or is sick, stay home. The same guidance is for staff who also are receiving the take-home test kits. Test on April 18 and report any positive cases.

In this newsletter you will find information about MCPS systemwide messages, Spring Sports, Clothing Recycling, college and university visits to CHS, and more.
