A MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL EDWARD OWUSU

Clarksburg High School Students, Staff, and Families,

The award winning painting by Clarksburg 12th grade student Aminata Thienta, displayed in the Main Office, is a great example of the talent, resilience and optimism of our students and community. The painting is that of young students playing hopscotch outside. Please keep that optimistic feeling moving forward as we hop into this week.

It's a new week and it begins with the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday on Monday. Across the United States and in Montgomery County this day is considered a Day of Service. At CHS students were provided with Advisory lessons about MLK Day and service activities. While weather may dampen some plans, I do hope students are able to either complete a service activity (See SSL Link HERE) or reflect on how they themselves can continue to live out the message of service left by Dr. King as well as our own motto of Be Good. Do Good.

Schools across MCPS are addressing ways to continue instruction for students in quarantine and new this past week, schools will be working on a case-by-case level to address and provide quarantine instruction for students that are not in quarantine but have concerns about COVID-19. The CHS instructional leadership team will meet this week and discuss a plan of action.

Please continue to use this FORM to report positive COVID-19 cases in students or staff. Any student who tests positive MUST isolate for 10 days (regardless of vaccination status or symptoms). Please view the isolation and quarantine calculator to determine return to school date.

Please check our school calendar for many events this week. There have been several changes to our athletics calendar. One overall change that will continue this week is the decision to pause spectators at all athletic events. This decision will be reassessed later this January.

In this newsletter you will find information about the January SMOB Update, MCPS systemwide messages, Information about closings or delays, Seal of Biliteracy, Winter Sports, Clothing Recycling, college and university visits to CHS, and more.
