Policy CNA

The Montgomery County Board of Education approved changes to Policy CNA, which guides the distribution of informational materials and flyers in schools. Under the revised policy, nonprofit organizations will be able to send printed materials home with students in elementary schools up to four times a year. However, such distribution no longer will be allowed in secondary schools. The revised policy will still allow MCPS, government agencies and Parent Teacher Associations (PTAs) to distribute printed materials in all schools at any time during the year. The updated Policy CNA decision trees for elementary and secondary schools may be found at www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/info/flyers/

Curriculum 2.0

MCPS is continuing to introduce its improved curriculum for the elementary grades—Curriculum 2.0. Curriculum 2.0 is designed to provide a strong foundation in the areas of reading, writing and mathematics, while placing a renewed emphasis on other areas, such as science, social studies, the arts, and physical education. It also helps students develop the creative and critical thinking skills that are extremely important for success in the 21st century. In 2012–2013, Curriculum 2.0 will be implemented in Grades K–3 in all schools, and report cards for those grades will be improved to provide parents more information about how students are performing in specific areas. More information is available on the web site atwww.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/curriculum/2.0
