Message from the Principal
I hope this communication finds you well. I would like to begin by thanking the Asian Parent Network for their efforts in celebrating the Lunar New Year with our staff! Although we were unable to celebrate in person this year, we appreciate your greetings and wishes for the New Year! Happy Lunar New Year!
Our next PTSA meeting will take place on Tuesday, February 16th at 7:00 pm. We will discuss Wootton’s re-opening plans during the PTSA meeting. In addition, the PTSA will also host our monthly Principal’s Coffee on Friday, February 19th at 9:00 am. Please find zoom links for both meetings on Wootton’s website under the PTSA tab. I look forward to seeing you at one or both events this week!

Fall Athletic Registration is Now Open
MCPS and Wootton High School are excited to announce that registration for Fall Sports is now open! Students must be registered by a parent through the MCPS ParentVUE Portal. Registration will close on February 22. The Fall “season” will begin on February 27th and go through April 17th. Information regarding the registration process can be found on the Wootton Web page under the athletics tab or you can go to Woottonsports.com

Bulk Meal Boxes Available for MCPS Families (English and Spanish)
The Division of Food and Nutrition Services is providing bulk box meals to help accommodate the schedules of working parents and meet the needs of MCPS students. DFNS will distribute boxes on Tuesdays (3 Day Meal Box) & Fridays (4 Day Meal Box) at two designated locations. More information can be found here.
Cajas de Comida Disponibles

Student Transfer Application Season Underway (English and Spanish)
Montgomery County parents/guardians who wish to request a Change of School Assignment (COSA) for their children from their home school may begin the process during the transfer season that began on Feb. 1. All COSA requests must be submitted no later than April 1, 2021. More information is available here.

Elementary Immersion Application Process Now Open For The 2021-2022 School Year (English and Spanish)
The elementary application process for the 2021-2022 school year will remain open until April 23, 2021. Any student entering grades K–5 in the 2021-2022 school year may participate in the immersion application process. More information is available here.

MCPS Planning to Offer Systemwide Summer Programs (English and Spanish)
Please note: Wootton High School will be offering summer enrichment opportunities through the Wootton Summer Institute. Information will be forthcoming.
MCPS is planning a variety of summer programs for elementary, middle and high school students. Programs will be focused on helping students accelerate learning following this unprecedented school year, with a focus on mathematics, literacy and preparing for the next grade level. Changes to Administration of Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate Exams (English and Spanish)
On Feb. 4, the College Board and International Baccalaureate (IB) announced changes to spring 2021 Advanced Placement (AP) and IB exams. MCPS will review the available options, gather feedback from stakeholders and develop a districtwide plan for AP and IB test administration in spring 2021. More information is available here.

TutorMe Free Service Is Now Available (English and Spanish)
TutorMe.com, a new, free student online tutoring and homework help service, is now available in any subject for students in grades 3-12. TutorMe.com is a secure, online resource easily accessible through MCPS student Canvas and StudentVUE accounts and offers on-demand assistance. More information is available here.

Anti-Vaping Symposium Set for February 27 (English and Spanish)
MCPS is hosting a virtual anti-vaping symposium from 11:30 a.m.–1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 27. The event, which is open to staff, students, parents, health providers and community members, will provide information on the health risks of vaping, preventative measures and community resources that schools and families may access. Choose Respect Video PSA Contest Accepting Entries (English and Spanish)
The 12th Annual Choose Respect Montgomery video PSA contest is now accepting entries. This contest challenges middle and high school students to create an original 60-second public service announcement (PSA) video to promote awareness of dating abuse and domestic violence among teens. Students will earn 10 SSL hours for the successful completion and quality submission of a PSA video. The top five videos, selected by students in secondary schools, will be awarded with prizes and viewed on the MCPS and Choose Respect Montgomery webpages. More information is available here.
Concurso de videos de anuncio de servicio público "Elija el Respeto" está aceptando inscripciones
El duodécimo concurso anual de anuncios de servicio público de videos Elija el Respeto Montgomery (Choose Respect Montgomery) ya está aceptando inscripciones. Este concurso desafía a los estudiantes de las escuelas de enseñanza media y las escuelas secundarias a que produzcan un video original de anuncio de servicio público de 60 segundos para promover la concientización sobre el abuso en citas y la violencia doméstica entre adolescentes.
