What is Dual Enrollment?
Montgomery County Public Schools and Montgomery College (MC) have partnered to offer college-ready high school students with opportunities to earn college credits while fulfilling their graduation requirements. Current high school students may be eligible for Jump Start to College for Dual Enrollment, Middle College, and Early College.
MC COURSES ARE NOW FREE FOR MCPS STUDENTS! Currently enrolled MCPS students (still in high school) are no longer being charged tuition, fees, or textbooks for college courses, regardless of financial status during the fall, winter and spring terms. Summer courses do not apply.
Eligibility and Assessments
- Juniors, Sophomores, and Freshmen must have a minimum of a 2.75 unweighted cummulative GPA
- Seniors must have a minimum of a 2.5 unweighted cummulative GPA
- Freshmen who do not yet have a GPA can take the Accuplacer exam
In addition to the Accuplacer, MC requires the ALEKS for Math Assessment: https://www.montgomerycollege.edu/admissions-registration/assessments.html
The math assessment has 2 parts: assessment 1 is the diagnostic test and assessment 2 is the actual placement test. Both parts MUST be completed to obtain a placement; the “placement” given after the diagnostic does not count.
Once you complete the assessment, please email your scores to email@example.com.
- SAT - Reading 480, Math 530
- ACT - Reading 21, Writing 21, Math 21
- Accuplacer - Reading AND Writing 263 each, Math 263
- A combination of unweighted GPA and Grades in specific classes may also qualify students for courses.

MIDDLE COLLEGE PROGRAM
The Montgomery College Middle College (MC2) program at Northwest High School is a dual enrollment program that prepares students to earn a high school diploma and college credits towards an Associate’s Degree.
The Middle College program (MC2) at NWHS is one of three programs in MCPS to offer students the opportunity to simultaneously earn a high school diploma and an associate's degree. The primary goal of the program is to make college a viable reality for all students. At NWHS we have partnered with Montgomery College to create a rigorous program of study with a focus in general engineering or general studies. The associate's degree and the college credits are transferable to the University of Maryland system and many other colleges and universities throughout the country. We currently offer the following pathways: General Engineering, General Studies HACL, General Studies STEM, General Studies SSAH, General Studies INTG, and Business.
EARLY COLLEGE PROGRAM
Students who enroll in the Early College program must apply the fall of their Sophomore year and will attend ALL classes their Junior and Senior years at Montgomery College. Students in Early College will earn an Associate's Degree along with their high school diploma. More information can be found about Early College by visiting the following pages:
