Program Overview

GUITAR 1

Guitar is open to all students interested in learning the basic principles of playing guitar, regardless of musical background. Students learn beginning guitar techniques, including selected major, minor, and seventh chords; basic fingerpicks and strums; and tuning techniques. In an instructional setting that allows individuals to receive assistance as needed, students develop effective practice habits, so they will be able to progress independently.

 

GUITAR 2

Prerequisite: Guitar 1

Expanding on beginning skills learned in MS Guitar 1, students will learn to create, perform, and respond to guitar music in various styles/genres. Students will continue to learn and develop beginning guitar skills, including power chords, major and minor scales, and basic fingerpicking, strumming, and picking techniques. They will study cultural, historical, personal, and social contexts as they relate to guitar repertoire. Students will develop effective practice habits so they can progress independently. Check with your child’s counselor to see if this class is currently offered.
