The program provides 6th-8th grade students with hands-on experience and a working knowledge of the creative and technical issues surrounding the production of digital audio and its application and synchronization with other media. Students will study various means of computer-assisted digital audio production including sequencing, digital recording, recording studio techniques, mixdown, and synchronization to video. The business of music as well as current and emerging technologies for web audio design will also be covered. A variety of music electives are available to help students gain experience in other musical skills including instruction on an instrument, ensemble playing, and music theory.

Digital Music 2

This course is for students who have successfully demonstrated skills and completed Digital Music 1. Mr. John David Maybury is currently the director of the Digital Music and Piano Classes at A. Mario Loiederman Middle School. Mr. Maybury has been provided with a wide variety of vocal, instrumental and music technology education that he has gained through years of teaching, performing and pursuing continual learning goals. He received his Bachelor of Arts and K-12 Music Teacher Certification from Salisbury University (Salisbury, MD) and his Master of Arts degree from The University of Limerick (Limerick, Ireland) in Music Technology. Outside of school, he currently is a chorus director for the Barbershop Harmony Society (BHS) for the Washington, DC chapter, sings in a quartet named sudo Vox, and he arranges, composes, coaches, teaches, and leads educational workshops for events run by organizations like the Contemporary A Cappella Society (CASA) and SingStrong. He has put on concerts in both the band and vocal worlds, directed musicals, served events as a guest conductor, and has helped run festivals and competitions. Maybury has experience in teaching and coaching ages spanning over 11 decades from 8-year-old students to 102-year-old Barbershop Harmony Society members.

In addition to teaching and directing, Maybury also continues to perform in his community and build relationships with the professional performing world to enhance the experience and provide opportunities to not only himself but to his students in and outside of the classroom. He has sung on the stage of Carnegie Hall numerous times, he has been principal roles in musicals such as Rent (Mark), The Fantasticks (Matt), and Sweeney Todd (Tobias), and is always working to develop his directing as a clinician and guest conductor. He has helped start several groups including Salisbury University’s first contemporary a cappella group, Squawkappella, where he served as a music advisor, vocal percussionist, singer, and vocal coach. He is a huge advocate of singing because he knows the value that it can have on an individual of any age. He is thankful that he gets to take part in helping others do something that has helped him grow so much as a person in his own life.
