In-Person Graduation for the Class of 2021
Due to the Montgomery County Council’s decision to move to Phase Two of the reopening process, social distancing at outdoor graduations is no longer required. Therefore, we are happy to announce that each 2021 graduate will now be able to invite four guests, as opposed to the two we communicated previously. No additional tickets will be provided by the school. Moreover, you may disregard previous emails we sent asking parents to RSVP with the names of guests. We no longer need to keep track of attendees because we do not have to account for contact tracing. Students who do not wish to attend the graduation ceremony will still be recognized in a slideshow that will be linked on the Richard Montgomery website.
In-Person Graduation Rehearsal
The Phase Two guidelines also allow for in-person graduation rehearsals. We will hold our rehearsal on Wednesday, June 9th from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Students need to arrive by 8:45 to line up for the procession. Students will receive their caps and gowns and their four tickets after graduation rehearsal.
Additionally, students will have an opportunity to hand in Chromebooks, textbooks, and other school materials that were not previously submitted, and will have a final chance to pay outstanding obligations. If students do not hand in all texts and materials, or pay all outstanding fees, they will not receive their Maryland State diploma on graduation day. The diploma can be picked up at the school after graduation day once fees are paid in full.
We will follow up again in the days prior to June 9th with more detailed information on the logistical plans for the graduation rehearsal and ceremony.
2021 Summer Experience at RM
The 2021 Summer Experience at Richard Montgomery High School – our local summer program with over 60 courses for students to choose between! All summer classes are FREE for all students.
The RM Summer Experience is designed to:
- Provide students with an opportunity to brush-up on skills
- Re-take courses where there might be unfinished learning
- Build community with RM staff and peers, and
- Provide enrichment opportunities for students who are ready to accelerate their learning
The courses are taught by Richard Montgomery High School teachers who are excited to work with your student this summer!
Please see the 2021 RMHS Summer Experience slides presentation to learn more about the different offerings, including how to register. Courses are offered in different formats (hybrid and virtual), in different weeks, and at different times – so be sure to look at all details before registering. This is a separate program from the virtual summer school MCPS is organizing centrally.
If you have any questions, please contact Kathryn Broullire, summer program coordinator, @ Kathryn_O_Broullire@mcpsmd.org
Senior Send-off Party
On Wednesday, May 26th from 12-3:00 p.m. we will be hosting a Senior Send-off Party in the stadium at Richard Montgomery High School. There will be a DJ, gift card drawings, FREE food, RM swag, 3D photo and video booth, outdoor games with sports options, announcement of the senior superlatives and so much more!
Students need to confirm that they will attend this party by responding here. Responses will need to be received by May 7, 2021 so we know how to best plan an enjoyable day for everyone.
In-person and Virtual students are welcome to attend.
This year seniors will have the opportunity to sign a senior mosaic and leave their mark at Richard Montgomery High School. The mosaic will be located on Main Street just outside of the media center. Please see this image where you can get a preview of what the mural will look like. Each senior will have a round tile to sign their name. To participate, students will need to sign up using this Sign-up Genius Link. We will be doing senior signatures from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 19th and during the Senior Send-off Party on May 26th from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. Students will have approximately 10 minutes to enter the building, choose a tile, sign their name, and exit. All CDC social distancing guidelines will be followed and students must wear a mask while in the building. If you are unable to attend, their name will be added to the mural before it is sealed and finished.
In-person and virtual students are welcome to sign-up and add their name to our senior mosaic memorializing this historic year.
Please email Mr. Durbin at Scott_W_Durbin@mcpsmd.org if you have questions regarding the mosaic.

Updated Club Information
Our club and organization student leaders and sponsors have been hard at work getting everything ready to launch virtually this fall. This is the Richard Montgomery Student Clubs and Organizations for 2020-2021 list (information will automatically update throughout the year as clubs or organizations are added). Only clubs that are included on this list plan to operate virtually this school year.
As you and/or your student review the list of clubs and organizations this week, students should consider registering for a club or organization using the county’s Student Registration Google Form link (please note that the county’s Google Form asks students to identify their meeting day/time preferences, however, student leaders and sponsors have already worked to identify meeting information for this school year.)
Students will also have the chance to sign up for any club or organization that interests them during our Virtual Club Fair this Friday, September 25th, during Advisory. All students will report to their regular Advisory class for attendance and then they will receive instructions for how to participate in the Virtual Club Fair.
Please email any questions regarding student clubs and organizations to Robin_L_Wheeler@mcpsmd.org.

Class of 2021 Senior Portraits (Make-up Dates Available)
Make-up dates have been scheduled. The same process below applies for the following make-up dates:
December 10, 14, 15, 16, 17, & 18
Senior portrait information was sent directly to senior families by mail from Lifetouch. Pictures will take place at RMHS from September 21-25. Students will be able to log into the PrestigePortraits.com website to "self-schedule" their appointment with the information provided in the mailing. Please note, Lifetouch has adopted a new scheduling process to help with social distancing and crowd control, per CDC protocol. Students are asked to log onto the PrestigePortraits.com website to "self-schedule" their appointment. The appointment cards have a date range listed when we will be at the school. The student then uses their unique ID number to log onto PrestigePortraits.com to select a date/time convenient for them. To help with the "No-Touch" policy, students/parents are asked to pay the sitting fee online when making their appointment, as no monetary exchanges will take place at the school/location site. If you have questions, concerns, or didn't receive information mailed home, please contact Lifetouch at (410) 644-7700 or by email firstname.lastname@example.org.
