Why are the MAP Growth Assessments Given?
The MAP Growth assessments provide teachers, students and parents with an accurate assessment of a student’s ability, accurately measuring what a child knows and needs to learn. The data that is provided by the assessment should be used by teachers to individualize instruction based on the student’s areas of strengths and weaknesses.

The MAP Growth assessments are given as one of the external measures of the Evidence of Learning for elementary and middle schools. The data that is obtained from the assessments should also be used to inform the School Improvement Process. The MAP Growth assessments will be used as the component of student progress in the MCPS’ school accountability framework. The MAP Growth assessments connect Instruction with School Improvement with Local Accountability.
