Meet the Administration

Linda M. Jones, Principal

Principal's Newsletters

I am truly honored to be the principal of Stonegate Elementary School located in  Silver Spring, Maryland. I joined the Stonegate family in July 2014 and know firsthand that this is a school community where students come first and the staff believe all students can achieve at high levels. I have appreciated the opportunity to work with amazing students, staff, and a supportive school community. I have been inspired by a strong work ethic, a dedication to excellence, and a clear focus on doing what is best for students. I have just completed my 7th year as principal of Stonegate and I have worked hard to continue the tradition of dedication, collaboration, and service at Stonegate Elementary School.

While my parents like to tell the story of how I was almost born in Germany, I was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland. I have an undergraduate degree in Elementary Education from Morgan State University, a Masters of Education in Reading from Towson University, and a certificate in Administration and Supervision from McDaniel College. I am entering my 25th year in education serving students and communities. I spent ten years in the Howard County Public School System as classroom teacher and team leader and two years in Baltimore City serving as classroom teacher and as a reading coach. I am currently entering my 15th year in the Montgomery County Public School System, where I have served previously as a reading specialist, assistant principal, and principal Intern. I live in Owings Mills, Maryland with my husband and my daughter, Ava Rose. I enjoy shopping, going to the movies, snow tubing, spending time with family and friends, traveling, and most of all being with my daughter Ava. I also love smoothies from Smoothie King. I am a huge basketball fan and my favorite team is the Los Angeles Lakers.

As the principal of Stonegate, my professional mission is to ensure the success of all students. I will continue to work to foster trust and positive relationships with students, staff, families, and the entire school community. As someone who is learning and growing professionally daily, I look forward to the new challenges that this experience continues to offer. I am beyond thrilled to continue to be the principal of Stonegate Elementary School and to be a Stonegate Shark.

The class of 2020 was my first class that I started with in kindergarten and supported them through their fifth grade year.  This was a proud moment for me to take students from kindergarten to fifth grade. I am inspired by my students and all that they have to offer to our world.

"Nothing exists for itself. Everything is a part of a larger purpose." Dr. Myles Munroe

During the 2019-2020 school year, I was happily serving as a Learning and Achievement Specialist, supporting the schools in the Whitman, Paint Branch and Blake clusters. I would visit Stonegate for staff meetings and engage the staff in learning experiences focused on them examining how their culture contributed to their educational practices and interactions with others. The staff was always so welcoming and super engaged. The front office staff and student ambassadors never let me enter or exit the building without greeting me warmly and making sure I knew where I was going. Each time, I would leave the school, I would think "Wow, this is an amazing place."  Little did I know, there was a larger purpose to my supporting Stonegate ES. Unbeknownst to me, I was getting to know the place and the people where I now proudly serve as Assistant Principal.

I knew I wanted to be an educator when I was in the 10th grade. To make this passion a reality, I attended two amazing Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCU) - Oakwood University in Huntsville, Alabama earning a B.S in Secondary English Language Arts Education and Howard University in Washington, DC earning a Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction. Then I earned a certificate in Equity and Excellence in Education and administration from McDaniel College in Westminster, MD.

This is the start of my 14th year in MCPS. I've served as a classroom teacher, focus teacher, Equity Instructional Specialist and Learning and Achievement Specialist. During my time outside of the classroom, I made it a point never to lose connections with families and students. I continued mentoring MCPS children and teens, and volunteering in classrooms. During my time in MCPS, I have been able to incorporate my love of learning, reading, singing, laughing and meeting new people and so much more. I can't wait for you to get to know me more and to get to know all of you and your children. I am so blessed that a part of my life's purpose is to serve Stonegate ES students, staff, families and community!
