Silver Creek is named a Maryland Green School!

The Maryland Green School awards efforts make a difference today and in the future.  Each Maryland Green School is part of a national and international community working to create a more sustainable future. Each year your students develop a greater understanding of their local environment and use their voice and leadership skills to become stewards of our Earth’s resources.

In a reflection about being a Green School, this 5th grade student at Clarksburg Elementary School in Montgomery County shared the following: “I joined the Environmental Club because I thought it would be interesting saving the environment and exploring out in the wild. I want to work with people. It is important to care about the environment because the environment is our source of life. We’re a green school because we care about the environment and we take good care of it.”

This year 656 schools are Maryland Green Schools, or 30% of all schools in the state. With the initiation of the Maryland Green Schools Act of 2019, the goal is to grow the number of Green Schools in Maryland by 50% by 2026.
