High School Application Process

MCPS has streamlined the Grade 8 high school application process by providing one common online application for all programs via Synergy. Grades 9–11 will apply through Google. Students in private school must have an MCPS ID to access an application. Information is listed on the MCPS regional/countywide application website.

Program eligibility is based on the student’s address and middle school for current Grade 8 students; and for current Grades 9–11 students, it is based on the home address only.

All MCPS parents/guardians of students in Grade 8 and Grades 9–11 received a flyer regarding the application programs during the weeks of September 14 and 21, 2020, respectively.

The criteria-based application programs will continue to use multiple measures and require teacher recommendations as part of the application process. Given the conditions associated with COVID-19 and virtual learning, options for the administration of an external assessment as part of the admissions process are still being explored.
