Dear Neelsville Middle School families,
I hope this email finds you and your family doing well. I wanted to communicate with you that this Thursday, June 4 and Friday, June 5, some of our teachers may not be providing their live Zoom classes. They are involved in packing up their classrooms and working on finalizing the school year. Just as a reminder, the last day of school for students in Monday, June 15. If your child’s teacher is not available to provide their usual live Zoom session, they will leave directions and work for students in their Google/myMCPS Classrooms. Some teachers may also recommend that your child attend another teacher’s Zoom class, if they teach the same subject. Both Thursday and Friday are still instructional days for our students. We are nearing the end of the marking period – please help us by reminding your students to connect with their teachers and submit all of their assignments as they complete them.
Finally, I want to address the social unrest currently being felt across our country. I hope each of us can reflect on our role as members of this community and ultimately this country – what can I do to bring about change for the good of all? We all have a common goal, we want to live in a world where we are not judged by the color of our skin, a world that respects each and every human being. What is my role in this world we call home? We are all experiencing some much turmoil at this time, some more than others, and I hope we can be there for each other, to support each other…we will get through this. Please take care of yourselves, your families and friends.

Quería comunicarme con ustedes que este jueves 4 de junio y el viernes 5 de junio, algunos de nuestros maestros podrían no ofrecer sus clases de Zoom en vivo, ya que están involucrados en empacar sus aulas y están trabajando para finalizar el año escolar. Solo como recordatorio, el último día de clases para los estudiantes el lunes 15 de junio. Si el maestro de su hijo no está disponible para proporcionar su sesión habitual de Zoom en vivo, dejarán instrucciones y trabajo para los estudiantes en sus aulas de Google / myMCPS. To meet the service-learning needs of our students during this time period, we are excited to announce that students can now earn Student Service Learning (SSL) hours for virtual/remote service completed from home under the sponsorship of an approved nonprofit organization or MCPS school staff member. Students may engage in designated virtual/remote MCPS SSL opportunities until schools return to normal status. To view the temporarily amended MCPS SSL Guidelines for Virtual/Remote SSL Opportunities, please click on this link. These guidelines have been created to ensure that any virtual/remote service during this time maintains the safety and privacy of our students and adheres to the proper supervision and monitoring needed for SSL as a state graduation requirement. School-hosted virtual/remote MCPS SSL opportunities will be communicated by school staff to the students involved. Nonprofit-hosted virtual/remote MCPS SSL opportunities will be posted on the Montgomery County Volunteer Center website (www.montgomeryserves.org) and tagged with the blue MCPS SSL banner and graduation cap icon.
As a reminder, all SSL forms for service completed from the summer of 2019, 1st semester, and 2nd semester should be emailed to the school’s SSL coordinator by the systemwide due date of June 5, 2020, in order to be documented on Quarter 4 report cards. SSL documentation for continued service through the summer of 2020 will be accepted in September 2020.
Additionally, in keeping with the State Board of Education’s recommendations, all students enrolled in full-year or second-semester courses with embedded SSL during the 2019-2020 school year will earn the automatic SSL hours for the course, provided that they pass the course. No SSL hours will be removed or deleted upon successful completion of the course.
As a reminder for you and your staff, families can pick up or exchange Chromebooks and MiFi devices at 45 West Gude Drive from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. every weekday. Families should wear masks and bring their child’s student ID number with them.

Monday, June 1: We have decided to cancel the meal distribution at Silver Diner FOR TODAY ONLY due to a planned peaceful protest at the RIO complex. While we do not anticipate any disruption, the gathering site for the protesters is in the same location as our meal distribution. Out of an abundance of caution for Silver Diner staff, our volunteers and the families who come for meals, we feel it best to suspend service for today. We appreciate any way you can communicate this to your families.
Meals will resume tomorrow and through the rest of the week.
