Extracurricular Activities

Our virtual activities meet weekly for 45 minutes on either Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday. Most of the activities will begin the week of September 28th and end by May 21st; some of the activities will start later in the year and are so noted below.  Information regarding these activities can be found below.  If you have any questions related to specific activities, please feel free to contact the sponsor identified for that activity by clicking on their name below.

We also work on projects or contests to help spur imagination and competition while helping each other learn more about STEM.

Drama 

Drama Club provides an opportunity for students who like to act or do theater tech to get together and enjoy drama activities. The club will have weekly meetings to plan virtual performances, learn improv, and plan for future drama club projects.

Book Wars 

Teams will meet virtually once a week on Tuesdays during student independent time. They will discuss books, create practice quizzes, and have fun getting to know each other. During the competition judges will award prizes for team unity and spirit as well as sportsmanship.

MCPS Math League 

Math Team is a fun, competitive activity for students who enjoy mathematics. Mathletes will have the opportunity to work collaboratively to solve challenging math problems and to compete in county and external mathematics competitions, such as MATHCOUNTS and AMC 8.

SGA 

The Student Government Association is a group of student leaders from 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. Students can run for elected official positions or choose to be an active member and representative. Students plan and execute fundraisers, events and activities that promote community outreach and school spirit. Students also have the chance to interact with SGA organizations from other MCPS middle schools throughout the year. SGA is a great club for students hoping to develop their leadership and become an active part of the LPMS community.

Yearbook 

Club

Students...you have a very special opportunity this year to help create a very important yearbook that you will want to show your grandchildren someday.  

If you would like to be a member of the yearbook club we will need designers, writers and editors to create a one of a kind book during a one of a kind school year. 

Some of the yearbook headlines will be themed around topics such as "your virtual workspace", "virtual teacher classrooms", "our pets as our companions", and "how to stay strong during difficult times"

Virtual Jazz Band @ LPMS 

Virtual Jazz Band @ LPMS will feature a new way to look at the traditional jazz, rock, funk and fusion music.  Students who join in on this group will use the functions inside of the SmartMusic suite to explore different types of music w/ Mr. Stuart’s support! All instruments are welcomed, but please note this is not an instrument instruction course.

The Safe Space Club is a club to provide a safe and welcoming space for LGBTQ+ students and their allies.  In addition to being a social and fun place for peers to gather, the club will focus on providing resources and support and promoting tolerance and understanding of LGBTQ+ within the Lakelands school and community.

The Minority Scholars Program is a student-led group whose mission is to help increase the academic success of minority students and foster positive relationships.
