Clarksburg High School Students, Staff, and Families,

It's a shortened week, with no school on Monday in recognition of Yom Kippur which begins at sundown today. To those observing Yom Kippur, which is the holiest day in the year for those that practice Judaism, we wish you a good fast. We return to school on Tuesday and as a reminder there will not be work due as part of our Homework Free weekend. Interims will be completed by teachers this week as we have reached the mid point of the marking period. Please be sure to check student attendance, as that can be a marker for success or disappointment. Don't forget - Summer SSL Hour forms are due this week! Sports teams will be in action this week so make plans to come out and see them. Make plans to check out our Volleyball, Soccer, and Field Hockey Teams in big matchups this week. CHS Varsity Football will travel to Watkins Mill HS on Thursday. Tickets sold via GoFan.co. Students will need to show school ID to enter events. Hispanic Heritage Month continues this week and our calendar has many activities to celebrate. Reminder to check grades online via ParentVUE and StudentVUE. Check out the news below!

Student Code of Conduct

In order to ensure a safe, productive, and positive learning environment, Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) publishes these handbooks to help students, parents/guardians, and staff understand the Montgomery County Board of Education's core values and commitments; students' rights; school rules; expectations for student conduct; and the possible consequences for violating the rules. All Clarksburg HS students will receive a printed copy of the Student Code of Conduct on Tuesday. You may access it electronically here.

Student Attendance

At CHS and in Montgomery County Public School, attendance requirements and policies have changed for the 2023-2024 school year as a result of an increase in chronic absenteeism. Did you know that chronic absenteeism is considered when a student has missed 10% or more of school days. If students become chronically absent, there will be documented and structured supports developed with the student, family, and staff.

Students must be in all classes on time and we have specific levels of consequences that will be implemented as tardies continue. It is important to note that any student who has 10 or more unexcused absences from school may be automatically withdrawn from an MCPS school. This is a significant change for MCPS and important for all students and families to understand.

Our CHS Classroom Absence Policy is as follows:

  • 1 unlawful absences = automated parent phone call
  • 3 unlawful absences = teacher phone call or text
  • 7 unlawful absences = parent conference initiated by counselor
  • 10 unlawful absences = referral to Student Well Being Team & Withdrawal from CHS

Our CHS tardy policy is as follows:

  • 3 unexcused tardies = parent contact by teacher
  • 5 unexcused tardies = teacher referral to admin via Synergy

CHS will implement frequent hall sweeps (per marking period) for student that are tardy to class. Student caught in a hall sweep can expect the following:

  • 1= Warning
  • 2= Admin phone call
  • 3= After school detention
  • 4= ISI and additional resources (case-by-case)

Additional admin intervention on a case-by-case basis
