Student Attendance

At CHS and in Montgomery County Public School, attendance requirements and policies have changed for the 2023-2024 school year as a result of an increase in chronic absenteeism. Did you know that chronic absenteeism is considered when a student has missed 10% or more of school days. If students become chronically absent, there will be documented and structured supports developed with the student, family, and staff.

Students must be in all classes on time and we have specific levels of consequences that will be implemented as tardies continue. It is important to note that any student who has 10 or more unexcused absences from school may be automatically withdrawn from an MCPS school. This is a significant change for MCPS and important for all students and families to understand.

Our CHS Classroom Absence Policy is as follows:

  • 1 unlawful absences = automated parent phone call
  • 3 unlawful absences = teacher phone call or text
  • 7 unlawful absences = parent conference initiated by counselor
  • 10 unlawful absences = referral to Student Well Being Team & Withdrawal from CHS

Our CHS tardy policy is as follows:

  • 3 unexcused tardies = parent contact by teacher
  • 5 unexcused tardies = teacher referral to admin via Synergy

CHS will implement frequent hall sweeps (per marking period) for student that are tardy to class. Student caught in a hall sweep can expect the following:

  • 1= Warning
  • 2= Admin phone call
  • 3= After school detention
  • 4= ISI and additional resources (case-by-case)

Additional admin intervention on a case-by-case basis

Administrative Classroom Visits

School administrations visited classrooms and spoke about student expectations and responsibilities. The presentation (Click HERE) provides all students with information about what they are expected to do as a Clarksburg leader, scholar, and community member on campus. While the information cannot account for all scenarios, it does provide guidance for behavior and successful and positive experience while in high school. Please take a moment to review the slides.

Have you checked out the CHS Student Handbook? If not, what are you waiting for? It has tons of information and is almost a one stop shop for all your answers! Check out the CHS Student Handbook 2023-2024.

MAP- R & MAP-M Testing for Grade 9

The Measurement of Academic Progress (MAP) assessment will be administered to all 9th grade students in both Reading and Math. All students are reminded to bring their charged Chromebook to school. CHARGE THOSE CHROMEBOOKS NIGHTLY! Students without a Chromebook may be provided a loaner with from the Media Center but must return them at the end of the day.

Message to the MCPS Community,

In the past several weeks, there has been an uptick in COVID-19 cases in the community. Since last Friday, more students and staff members have reported new cases of COVID-19, with classroom outbreaks occurring in a few schools across the county. This rise in COVID-19 cases is not unexpected, as our community gathers together, following a modest summer surge. Following established procedure, schools will directly notify staff and families of students in a classroom with an outbreak of 3 or more cases.
