About Ms. ChanMs. Chan

I am honored to start this year as your new principal!  I believe that our job as educators is to help our students find their passion.  By setting high expectations and providing the support to persevere through challenges, I know our cubs can do anything!  I am looking forward to continuing the high achievement of our students  and am committed to partnering with our families and community to ensure our students continue the tradition of success of Carderock Springs.

I was born and raised in Virginia Beach, Virginia and my parents still live in the same house since I was a child.  I attended the University of Maryland, College Park where I received a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education.  I received a Master of Science degree in Educational Studies from The Johns Hopkins University and also received an Educational Specialist degree  in Administration and Supervision from Kennesaw State University.  I spent the first seven years of my career in Montgomery County Public Schools as a 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade teacher.  I then moved to Fulton County, Georgia where I taught ESOL, was a STEM facilitator that planned and supported STEM and project based learning units with teachers, and an assistant principal.  I returned to MCPS and served as a staff development teacher, assistant principal, and principal intern.

My husband and I have one son, Elliott, who also attends school in MCPS.  Our family enjoys spending lots of time on the mountain bike trails and you’ll likely see us locally on the Cabin John Trail.

If I can ever be of support for any questions or concerns, please reach me at 240-740-0540 or by email at Anita_Chan@mcpsmd.org
