TPMS Magnet Program

May 14 2023 Update

Hello Magnet Families!

TPMS Art students are making a splash at the Westfield Montgomery Mall Art show.  We've included some entries above in case you aren't able to go in person.  At the Carderock Math Comptetition, TPMS came in First Place with one TPMS 8th grader taking the prize for individual first place.  Congrats to Ms. Manchester and her amazing team!

Testing continues this week.  On Wednesday, we will have all-day testing for Math in the same manor that we did for ELA, but it will only take one day. On Thursday and Friday, 6th and 7th grade students will take their MAP R and MAP M tests while 8th graders take a Social Studies test.  Students who miss any tests or need more time to complete their MAP tests will do so next week.

Check out the table below for information about an upcoming Egypt trip, a calendar of events, and a secret for a retiring and beloved teacher.

Egypt Trip

May 18th 7pm for virtual information meeting

Are you interested in exploring the Wonders of the Pharaohs in Egypt.  Mr. Lynn and Ms. Lever are working with Passports.com to create an amazing summer trip to visit Egypt in the Summer of 2025 for adults and students.  The trip includes visiting Cairo which includes visits to the Great Pyramids and The Great Sphinx of Giza, traveling to Aswan which is famous its beautiful Nile Valley scenery and significant archaeological sites, and sailing on the Nile River to experience a variety of exotic birds and other amazing wildlife.  There is so much more to this trip that Mr. Lynn and Ms. Lever would love to share with you.  If this trip sounds amazing to you, and you would like to learn more about it, please join us for a virtual meeting on May 18 at 7pm for an interest meeting. We will share all the details which will include accommodations and costs of the trip.

Shhh.....

Mr. Goerhing doesn't receive these updates, so please keep this part a secret from him...

In June, beloved teacher, mentor and Takoma Park community pillar Bryan Goehring will retire from the public school system. Because he is so humble, he is attempting to leave quietly.  His adoring students, the TPMS Difference Makers, and his fellow staff members will not let him get away so easily. He would never want a party for himself or a gift (he’d just donate it), so please consider supporting  Tommy’s Pantry in Bryan’s honor by making a financial donation.

Note: Bryan does not know about this fundraiser; it will close on June 16 so that we may present him with the total raised in his honor.
