School & Community News…

The State of Maryland requires that schools conduct six annual mandated drills: lockdown; shelter-in-place; evacuation; reverse evacuation; severe weather; drop, cover, and hold (earthquake).  This year, we will also conduct a Parent-Child-Reunification (PCR) drill. Please ensure that the emergency contact and student release information for your child(ren) is updated.  You can call the school at 240-740-5700 for assistance.

Author and Illustrator Jackie Urbanovic will be visiting our school on Wednesday, May 10th.  She will be doing a book signing after her presentations.  If you have any of her books at home that you would like to have her sign, please send them to school with your child on May 10th.  If you do not have any of her books but would like to buy one for her to sign, most of her books can be found on Amazon or at local bookstores.

Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP) 🎓-Students in Grades 3, 4, and 5 will participate in MCAP beginning Monday, April 24th through Tuesday, May 16th.   Students in Grades 4 will take the Math portion of MCAP,  Monday, May 8 - Tuesday, May 9. Click here to view our full testing schedule.  For more MCAP information and resources, visit: https://www2.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/curriculum/mcap/

How to help your child/Reminders:

  • Get a good night’s rest the night before
  • Eat a healthy breakfast at home or plan to eat the school-provided breakfast
  • Be on time on the day of testing - Students who arrive at school late will not be allowed into the classroom during a testing session and will be required to test on a make-up day.
  • NO CELL PHONES/WATCHES ðŸ“µ- Personal mobile devices, such as cell phones/watches, during the administration of the assessment is a violation of test security and is strictly prohibited. Students will NOT be allowed access to such devices during the testing period.

COVID-19 - Thank you to our families for continuing to test when they have COVID-19 symptoms or after possible exposure, for using the online tool to report positive COVID-19 test results, and for following CDC isolation guidelines.   Please remember that while masking is optional, masks are temporarily required in some situations:

  • Students presenting to the health room for evaluation of possible COVID-19 symptoms.
  • Staff or students with COVID-19 infection, after completing five days of isolation, who feel well enough to return to school or work (masks are worn until day 10).
  • Individuals exposed during an outbreak, as an alternative to a 10-day quarantine.
  • Exposed staff and students do not need to quarantine as long as they are symptom-free, and can safely wear a mask for 10 days after the exposure.

Yours in Service,

Kimberly Lloyd, Principal
