10-5-20

Dear Wootton Community,

Happy October!  Here are a few updates for the week of October 5th:

A message form the Common Sense Editorial Board:

Common Sense, Wootton’s award-winning, student-run newspaper, is up and running for the 2020-2021 school year. We are so excited to cover community issues and keep everyone connected during distance learning. As a publication, we are dedicated to serving students, staff, family, alumni and other community members.

We hope you will all check out our new content via our website and invite you to also download the new and exciting Student News Source App (directions below). This new app is the best way to receive daily content about our community. You can also follow us on social media: on Twitter @woottonnews; on Instagram at whs.commonsense; on Facebook at Wootton’s Common Sense; and on TikTok at woottoncommonsense

Although we aren’t able to print as frequently as previous years — you know, the ones in which a pandemic wasn’t turning the world upside down — we are still very busy gathering content for our print issues, which we plan to distribute on a quarterly basis as long as we continue learning virtually.

As we work diligently to inform and engage the members of our school and community, we need your support! In addition to the moral support you give us in abundance, you can help our publication by becoming a patron (directions below). Your donations will allow us to afford printing, web-hosting and operating costs for the school year. Most significantly, all patrons will have the quarterly printed news magazine mailed home. Because you deserve recognition for your generosity, all patrons will have their names listed online and in print.

To the parents, guardians and staff who are working tirelessly to support their loved ones amid unusual and difficult circumstances, we thank you.

Stay safe and take care,

Common Sense Editorial Board: Editors-in-Chief Kirby Child, Riley Jordan, Young-A Kim, Christina Liu and Miller Romm and Managing Editors Betty Berhane, Maya Erd, Sarah Firdaus, Jenna Lind, Quinn Lugenbeel, Leah Starr and Jamie Stern. Adviser Evva Starr.

Here is a link to the MAP administration letter sent out last week.

Please be reminded of the following regarding MAP Testing:

  • This test is a Maryland State Department of Education requirement for all students in K-12 this year.
  • MAP testing sessions are NOT being recorded;
  • All students must have their cameras on (and their microphones muted) for the test so that proctors are able to actively monitor student testing.  As such, students must use a device with a camera to take the test.  School-issued Chromebooks work and are the preferred device.  To check to see if your device meets all requirements, use that device to access this Workstation Diagnostic Tool.
