WJ DOES NOT ACCEPT WALK-IN TESTERS
Students must bring a calculator, with extra batteries, and pencils to their assigned test rooms.
Why should I take the PSAT?
- Receive feedback on your strengths and weaknesses on skills necessary for college study.
- Enter the competition for scholarships from NMSC (grade 11).
- Help prepare for the SAT. You can become familiar with the kinds of questions and the exact directions you will see on the SAT.
Who Takes the PSAT?
This year, all tenth grade students are required by MCPS to take the official 2019 PSAT exam at no cost.
Juniors are strongly encouraged to take the PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Juniors whose Selection Index scores are high and who meet all requirements for participating in National Merit Scholarship programs will be considered for recognition and scholarships.
Ninth grade students will take a mock/practice SAT test donated by Capital Educators and is free for students.
When: The 2019 PSAT will be administered at WJ on October 16th with a special bell schedule that day.
Payment: Juniors only must pay a $17.00 test fee plus $0.60 non-refundable convenience fee paying online here or a check for $17.00 payable to WJHS, may be given to Ms. Gayle Evans in the College & Career Center before school, during lunch, or after school. Payment for juniors is due by Friday, October 11th.
Accommodations: Students needing testing accommodations for the official PSAT must have prior approval by the College Board in order to receive them. Information about receiving testing accommodations is available on the College Board website by visiting www.collegeboard.org/students-with-disabilities. Counselors are available to answer questions and help families understand the College Board application process for testing accommodations. Students who have already been approved for accommodations on other College Board exams (AP, SAT, etc.) do not need to re-apply.
Scores: Exam scores are typically released by the College Board in late December/early January for students taking the Official PSAT. Students should create an account on Collegeboard.com, if they do not already have one, to access their official score report. Score reports from the 9th Grade MOCK SAT will be distributed via homeroom when they become available.
There will be an evening session for students and parents, date TBA in the WJ Cafeteria. Attendees will receive information on how to interpret PSAT results as they relate to the SAT exam.
