December 11 2022 Update

Hello Magnet Families. As we near the winter solstice, we dream of snow-days and enjoy beautiful sunrises like the one above.  This week's update features the STEM newsletter, in case you missed it last week, as well as a shout out to four of our students who one the Integirls math competition!  If you know the name of our wonderful magnet geometry teacher, you'll appreciate their team name.  We also had an 8th grader compete in the high school division come in second place.  

 

Math Contests

Do you enjoy solving challenging math problems? Here are two great opportunities! Registrations for the AMC8 Math Competition (Tuesday 1/17) and Math Kangaroo (Thursday 3/16) are now open. If you are not familiar with these contests, please visit the websites and try some sample problems to decide if participation is an appropriate challenge for you.

Please note that both contests have a fee. The cost for AMC8 is $5. Payment information will be send to parents once a student is registered.

The Math Kangaroo contest has a $21 fee, which includes a Math Kangaroo shirt and other math swag. The MK fee is payable directly at the website when a student registers. To register for the TPMS Math Kangaroo site, students must enter the following code: MDSILVE0002742@2023MK

Upcoming Events:

 

December 23:  Winter Break begins!

Schools are closed from Friday 12/23 through monday, January 2nd

January 12/13:  6th Grade MAP Math tests

 

January 23 to 27: 6th Grade MAP Reading tests

 

January 30 to Feb 3: 7th and 8th Grade MAP make-up tests

All 6th graders are required to take the MAP reading and Math tests to assess their transition to middle school. In the last week of January, students who scored below proficiency in the Fall MAP tests will be tested again to support their progress.
