Business/Accounting Program

Do you like working and making money from your own effort and ideas?
Do you want to find out how businesses make a profit, what makes a business successful, or why many businesses fail?

The Accounting program will introduce you to general accounting principals through case studies, hands-on practice with accounting software, and real world examples of how businesses use accounting.

Entrepreneurship students learn the process for developing a small business by forming their own Sherwood companies. These companies go through the process of developing a business plan, running the business and then closing out the business.

• 5450/5451 Entrepreneurship and Business Management 1 A/B

  Whether students’ dreams involve working at a fast-moving entrepreneurial organization or running an existing company, in this foundational course they learn the necessary skills they need to understand business principles. Student entrepreneurs work in teams to investigate topics such as business opportunities, feasibility studies, development of a business plan, financing alternatives, marketing, and legal forms of organization. Students setup and run their own businesses during the school year.

• 4111/4112 Accounting A/B

  Want to become a stockbroker, a financial analyst, or run your own business? Using microcomputers for electronic spreadsheets and accounting simulations, students will be able to set up accounts, prepare qualitative reports, and learn about auditing principles, budgets, and final reports. Emphasis is placed on student interest and how accounting is conducted in our society. Students may receive credit for this course at Montgomery College.

  Certified public accountant (CPA), financial analyst, stockbroker, e-commerce developer—these are just a few of the careers that require an accounting background. This course provides students with a more comprehensive study of accounting principles and the application of these principles to a wide range of business situations. Extended use of microcomputers is an essential component of this course. Students may receive credit for this course at Montgomery College.

  Students may take the college board CLEP exam after completing this course.
