Community Recognizes Montgomery County's Dan Reeks' Coaching Career

The Montgomery County community will come together to honor the long and distinguished athletic coaching career of Dan Reeks, Saturday, November 6th at Sherwood High School from 1-4 pm.  Alumni, family, friends, and colleagues are encouraged to attend.  Details can be found on Facebook event page: A Celebration of Dan Reeks’ 50+ Years of Coaching.

Former student-athlete Megan Enright, Sherwood Class of 2016, had this to say about Coach Reeks. “I speak for all those who have been coached by Reeks that he is someone who has positively shaped the lives of student-athletes on and off the fields and in enduring and lasting ways. Coach Reeks mentors young athletes in life not just in running or competition. He remains one of the most influential people in my life and I am grateful to and for him.”

Reeks retired from Montgomery County Public Schools in 2009 having taught junior high and high school social studies at Churchill, Eastern, Northwood, Paint Branch, Sligo, Wheaton, and Sherwood High School where he ended his teaching career.  He met his wife Barbara at Eastern Junior High where he also started his first girls cross country team.

Coach Reeks’ five-decade span of coaching began in 1970.  He has received numerous awards and recognitions including Washington Post 2005 Cross Country Coach of Year and regional MCPS Coach of the Year six times just to name a few.

When not coaching, Coach Reeks enjoys spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Dan and his wife Barbara reside in Rockville.
