Media Center FAQs

When is the media center open?

The media center is open every day between 7:50 am and 3:00 pm.  On every other Wednesday afternoon, we are open until 4:15 pm for clubs and activities.  Between 7:50 and 8:10 each morning, students are welcome to come with a pass from their first period teacher.

Do I need a pass to come to the media center?

Yes, you need a pass anytime you come to the media center individually.  If you come during Timbertime or during a regular class period, you must have a pass to enter the media center.  If you come during lunch, you must get a pass from your grade level administrator in the cafeteria.  Sometimes, the media center is being used by other classes.  During these times, even if you have a pass, we don't want to disturb the hard work going on in the media center and you will have to come back another time.

How many books can I check out?

You can check out up to five books for three weeks.  You can renew books for an additional three weeks if you have not finished with it.  But if someone else has placed a hold on the book, you'll have to return it.  You cannot check out a book if you have one overdue or if you have lost one.  To clear your account, please return the book or pay for the lost one.  We do not charge fines for overdue books.

Can I use the computers in the media center?

Yes, there are 18 computers in the media center for you to use for school work or to check your grades on MyMCPS.

Can I eat in the media center?

No.  There is no food or drink allowed in the media center.

Are there any other rules I should know about?

In the media center we ask that students show respect for the place, the program, and the people.  This requires students to think through their actions to determine if they are being respectful to the other people and staff in the media center, to the furniture, books, or space, and to the the hard work that is being done when they are in the library.  Students who are being disrespectful will be asked to leave.  We also ask that students ask for permission to print from the computers and have a staff member retrieve their papers for them.
