Mrs. Ilana Carr, Principal
July 1, 2021
Dear Seven Locks Community,
I am thrilled to share that I have been appointed principal of Seven Locks Elementary School by the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Board of Education effective today, July 1, 2021.
One of Seven Locks’ hallmarks is the closeness of the community. This is not only due to the size of our wildcat family, but also our shared vision - to empower all students to reach their potential. In line with the commitment to our vision, I want to extend a note of thanks to Mrs. Murphy and Mr. Ajamian, who have laid the groundwork for a smooth transition, ensuring that the intentional and collaborative work does not miss a beat.
As I’ve had the fortune of connecting thus far with the Seven Locks team, the hunger to lean on and learn from each other has been felt. Throughout my professional journey, whether as a special education teacher, staff development teacher, instructional specialist, assistant principal, or principal intern- relationships and collaboration have ignited growth and opportunity. I am eager to listen and learn from the diverse perspectives, strengths, and talents our community encompasses to ensure we continuously harness both academic and social-emotional achievement for all.
On a personal note, I am from the Maryland area. My mom was a special education teacher in MCPS for over thirty-nine years, and seeing her efforts first sparked my passion. After going to Indiana University to pursue degrees in both elementary and special education, I found myself back in MCPS, with an instrumental opportunity to long-term substitute as a special education teacher. This kicked off my professional path! Outside of school, I enjoy taking walks with my husband, David (a Churchill graduate!) and our 5-month-old puppy, Hugo, in Silver Spring, spending time with my 96 years young grandmother, and cheering on DC and Hoosier sports!
In the coming weeks, I will collaborate with Dr. Moran and parent leadership to set up community meet and greets. Dates and times will be forthcoming. In the meantime, please feel free to contact me at Ilana_S_Carr@mcpsmd.org. I look forward to getting to know your stories and establishing meaningful partnerships as we look ahead.
