Weekly Athletics Update

Good afternoon SV Nation,

The Seneca Valley Athletic Department would like to thank all of our student athletes, coaches, administrators, security and parent/guardians for working so hard to allow us to complete an in person fall athletic season.  Though it was never meant to fully replace the missed season from the fall, we are confident that we provided an environment that was fun and competitive that enabled our student athletes to safely return to the playing surface.

As Fall season came to and end, we successfully began our Spring condensed season this past Saturday. It was a great first day with our student athletes showing up ready to work hard and prepare for our upcoming competitive season.  Please make sure to read through this update for very important Spring Season information.

Registration/Paperwork:

Thank you to all that have registered for spring sports. Most of you have turned in your required forms and have been practicing. However we still have a number of student athletes who are being held out due missing physicals or obligations.  Please make sure these are all turned in by Friday at midnight, in order to be part of our spring program.

Softball and Boys for Coed Volleyball still needed:

Though our registration window has closed for our other spring sports, we are still accepting applications for our Girls Softball and males who are interested in participating on our Coed Volleyball team. If you are interested or know of someone who may be, please have them register asap via parentvue and turn in their updated physicals and covid supplement sheets electronically to our athletic office. Our deadline for that is next Tuesday, and if we are unable to get a few more student athletes, we will be unable to field a Coed Volleyball and Girls Softball team.

Academic Assistance:

Starting next week, Seneca Valley will be offering after school academic help Monday-Thursday for those who are currently involved in an extra-curricular activity.  This will take place from 2:45-4:30 in the cafeteria.  A few important notes:

  • This is for current student athletes involved in spring sports
  • Will be a place for academic help and students will be held to those expectations
  • For those who have elected to return to in person schooling- you may show up at that time and check in with Ms. Mosley- who will be running the event. Please go directly there at the end of school, do not leave campus
  • For those who have elected to stay virtual- you can use this link during that time to receive additional support via zoom

If you are interested in this, please communicate directly to your coach who will help facilitate.

Once again, this is for current students involved in extra-curricular activities.  For those that come in person, it will be a controlled learning environment and student athletes will be working or will be asked to leave

Practice Schedules:

Though we fully understand the need to put out a long term practice schedule, with the uncertainty of teams and the ever changing rules and regulations regarding covid, we are currently putting out schedules one week at a time. It is the hope that as the season progresses, and we have a more concrete idea of who will be playing games and when we will be able to put out a longer term practice schedule.

For now, please make sure you sue this link for Week 2 practice schedule. This link is fluid and may change with weather or other unexpected changes. We will always update those changes on the link as well as on social media

Student athlete daily attestation:

Each day we are requiring that our student athletes answer a covid questionnaire before coming to practice. Any student athlete not completing the form, will be unable to participate that day and be asked to leave.  Though we have QR codes posted on campus, we encourage them to sign in each day prior to coming. Important however, that the sign in must take place on the day of practice each day. They cannot sign in the night before for a next day practice.  Please use this link to pull up the form and answer the questions.

Game Schedules:

Our current game schedules are on our website  www.svhsathletics.org but are subject to change, due to several schools, including our own not fielding all of our teams.

Important Safety protocols:

  • Student Athletes should bring water bottle, hand sanitizer, and towel to each practice. Water WILL NOT be provided.
  • We also encourage student athletes to bring their own chairs, since benches will not be used.
  • Student athletes will follow a variety of safety protocols.
  • Please visit this MCPS site for details and review this video for more information on who things will be done to ensure the safety of our student athletes.
  • Parent/Guardians are not permitted to be on site. Only approved student athletes, coaches and admin will be allowed.  If you are attempting to watch, you will be asked to leave.

Spring Meet the Coaches Night:

We will host our annual Meet the Coaches night, virtually on Wednesday, April 28th at 6:30 pm.
