2019-2020 Cheerleading Try Out Packet

Purpose of Cheerleading

To promote school spirit, uphold school standards, promote athleticism, leadership, and service.

Who May Join

Any incoming 9th grade – 12th grade female or male. You must have at least a 2.0 GPA. You must have pep and enthusiasm, want to be involved, enjoy performing for an audience, and be willing to work hard.

Tryouts

Tryouts are held annually in late May or early June. Prior to tryouts an interest meeting and sample workout are held (usually mid-May). This gives parents and potential cheerleaders an opportunity to learn more about the program and get a feel for what’s involved athletically.

The Teams

There are two cheerleading teams at Seneca Valley High School – Varsity and Junior Varsity. Varsity is open to anyone in 9 th through 12 th grades; Junior Varsity is open to anyone in 9 th through 11 th grades. All teams are open to both males and females.

Meeting Times

Varsity Cheer practices are held in the evenings beginning at 5:30 p.m.

For the Fall season - 3 practices per week and 1 football game each week

For the Winter season - 2-3 basketball games and 1-3 practices per week

Cheer at football and basketball games (boys & girls)

Perform at pep-rallies, parades, & orientation programs

Regional and State Competitions

Fall and Winter Youth Nights

Perform stunts, pyramids, cheers, chants, dance routines, and gymnastics

The group meets several days a week after-school.
