 RHMS is Officially Designated a No Place for Hate School

Congratulations to the staff, students and parents at Rocky Hill MS for earning our official designation as a No Place for Hate School. No Place for Hate is founded and supported by the Anti-Defamation League. This program directly complements our mission by providing a framework and resources for us to enhance our school climate in a way that all students, staff and families feel empowered, included, and respected.

During the year our No Place for Hate Committee, consisting of students at each grade level, staff members and parents, planned various school wide activities in which to engage our students. These activities included:

  • all students completing the introductory lesson and signing the Resolution of Respect (see below) which is displayed in our hallway with all students’ signatures;
  • all students participating in a lesson on Cyber-bullying and creating a collage of positive alternatives;
  • all students creating a grade level collage representing how each student will “Be the Change You Want to See in the World”;
  • all students participating in monthly community circle activities to build positive relationships and develop our PRIDE characteristics; and
  • many other activities included in classroom counseling lessons.

We would like to thank all the members of the No Place for Hate Committee for their dedication to the project.

Resolution of Respect

  • I will seek to gain understanding of those who are different from myself.
  • I will speak out against prejudice and discrimination.
  • I will reach out to support those who are targets of hate.
  • I will promote respect for people and help foster a prejudice-free school.
  • I believe that one person can make a difference – no person can be an “innocent” bystander when it comes to opposing hate.
  • I recognize that respecting individual dignity and promoting intergroup harmony are the responsibilities of all students with a goal to implement school wide initiatives to take a stand against hate and bullying and sending a clear, unified message that all students have a place to belong.
