Principal - Dr. Joey Jones
Greetings. My name is Joey N. Jones. I am pleased to serve as principal of Robert Frost Middle School, one of the top middle schools in the nation. I was born in Reidsville, North Carolina. I enjoyed a wonderful childhood along with my parents, three brothers, and two sisters. My wife and I have three teen-aged girls. We value family, church, and community. We have a passion for the development and success of people, particularly youth.
I earned B.S. and M.S. degrees in industrial arts/technology education from
North Carolina A&T State University. I was fortunate to be awarded an
academic fellowship to attend the University of Maryland where I earned a Ph.D.
degree in Public School Administration and Supervision. I started my Montgomery
County Public Schools career in 1992 as a substitute teacher. Since then, I
have enjoyed successful years of service at Sligo Middle School, Thomas Edison
High School of Technology, and Rockville High School. I am very excited to be a
part of the Robert Frost Middle School community. Finally, in my spare time I
enjoy traveling, watching and playing sports, reading, and eating out at nice
restaurants. One of my personal quotes is: Leaders are always doing one of two
things – getting better or getting behind. Choose to get better.
Assistant Principal - Mr. Darryl Johnson
My name is Darryl V. Johnson. I am excited to serve in my twelfth year as assistant principal here at Robert Frost, where exceptional teaching and learning takes place! My love for learning and education was nurtured while growing up in New Jersey with my mom, a retired educator, my brother and five sisters. I have one son and twenty nieces and nephews whom I love very much! My core values are based on faith, family, and the responsibility of leaving a thing better than when you found it. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, sports (Go NY Giants!), health & fitness, traveling, history and helping others. I am also a self-proclaimed “foodie”! I love to experience different cultures through food.
I received my Bachelor of
Science and my Masters in Education from the University of Maryland Eastern
Shore. I completed my certification in administration and supervision
from McDaniel College. I began my career in education as a substitute
teacher with the Newark Public Schools in New Jersey. I also served as Program
Manager of Wicomico ACTS (Advocates for Children Today) Program in Salisbury,
Maryland, as well as the Program Director of Western Sussex Academy, a small
private school in Delaware. This is my nineteenth year in MCPS, the best
school system in the country! I began my MCPS career in 2000 as a school
counselor. I have worked with some of the most amazing people at
Kingsview and Redland Middle Schools, as well as John F. Kennedy High
School. I have also been blessed to share my student centered
philosophy while sponsoring a variety of clubs and organizations at each
school. One of my favorite quotes is by Abraham Lincoln, “I do the best I
know how, the very best I can; and I mean to keep on doing it to the end.
If the end brings me out all right, what is said against me will not amount to
anything. If the end brings me out all wrong, ten angels swearing I was
right would make no difference.”
Assistant Principal - Ms. Laura Shabazz
I’ve been in the field of education for twenty-seven years;
twenty-two years as a teacher and resource teacher and five years as an
administrator. This is my second year working as an Assistant Principal at
Robert Frost Middle School and it’s such a pleasure to work here with all of
these talented students and teachers!
I grew up in Silver Spring, Maryland and am a graduate of
Blair High School, the University of Maryland, and Hood College. I am married
to a wonderful man and we have six children together. When I am not at work, I am spending time
with them and creating treasured family memories.
I am a people person and really value building relationships
with students, coworkers, friends and family.
I feel everyone is responsible for their own happiness; and I find
happiness in connecting with others and supporting children in their learning
