Frequently Asked Questions for RCES Staff

What is the media specialist's role in planning and teaching?

The media specialist collaborates with teams to implement information literacy standards and indicators from Curriculum 2.0. She attends team meetings, participates in collaborative planning, helps teams with resources and/or technology, and co-teaches lessons with teachers.

How do I find a book?

You can access our catalog by clicking here. Find and click on Rachel Carson ES, then click on the catalog tab. Type in a keyword, title, or author in the field to see if we have what you need.

How many books can I check out?

There is no limit for teachers. We just ask that when you are done with the book(s), return them as soon as possible. Please be mindful when you let other teachers borrow the books you checked out to prevent lost books.

What is the check out process?

You can find your books and bring them to the circulation desk for check out. If no one is there, please put your name on a sticky note and leave the books at the desk and the media staff can check them out for you.  If it’s an emergency and you need the book asap, please write your name and the barcode numbers found on the back of the book on a sticky note and leave the sticky note on the circulation desk. Lastly, if you have a list of books you need, you can email the list to Tim and Carrie 48 hours before you need them, and they can pull and check the books out for you.

When can my students check out books?

There is open book exchange for students, which mean teachers can send down groups of 1-5 students to the media center to check out books throughout the day with a note.  Please have them read and respect the Book Checkout Open/Closed sign on the door.

Do we have headphones?

We do not have headphones for classrooms. However, we do have a class set of headphones that teachers can check out for specific lessons and then returned them same or next day.

What do I do when I have a technology problem?

Please let Ms. Rubin or Ms. Berard know by sending an email or sending a note to the media center explaining the problem. If available, they can troubleshoot the issue.

Where do I get log ins for my students?

Information can be found on Tshared at "T:\Tshared\Student Logins 1920" and the date of report running will be at the end of the filename.  For new students, log ins are created/transferred within 2-3 days of the student coming to RCES. Tim Aley will email you the info when it is available.
