Updates: Orientation, Chromebooks, Masks, and Athletics

New Student Orientation
Save the date for Poolesville High School’s Falcon Student Orientation!
All rising 9th and 10th grade students as well as all new students to PHS are invited to attend our Falcon Student Orientation on Thursday, August 26 from 7:45am – 11:25am. Transportation will be provided. This is a great opportunity for students to meet their teachers, walk through their schedule, get connected with clubs, and meet new friends before the first day of school. Look out for more details in the coming weeks regarding our scheduled activities and specific transportation information. Chromebook Distribution and Swap
Students who have a Chromebook that is an Acer C740 can return it to the school on the days listed below to swap out for a newer model.  Check the back of the computer to find the model.  If you cannot find the model, you can bring it to the school on the days listed below and have it checked.  If a student has not received an MCPS Chromebook, they may pick them up during the times listed below.  If you have any questions you may email Mrs. Hackey (Kathryn_V_Hackey@mcpsmd.org). Distribution will be in front of the school.  You will also have an opportunity to return any textbooks or materials you were previously unable to return. 
Distribution Times:
--Grades 11 and 12: Thursday, August 12, 9:30-12:30 and 1:30-4:30. 
--Grades 9 and 10: Friday, August 13, 9:30-12:30 and 1:30-4:30.

Mask Guidance
All MCPS students, staff and visitors will be required to wear face coverings in school buildings this fall, regardless of vaccination status. Please read this community update for more information. 

Athletic Registration Updates
Fall Athletic Registration is in full swing! If you are interested in participating on a fall team, please register through ParentVue. Tryouts/Practices begin on Wednesday August 11th.

We need more students for field hockey, football, cheer and poms. Come out and give it a try!!

How to Register
Students must be registered by a parent through the MCPS ParentVue Portal. More information regarding the registration process can be found on the MCPS Athletics Website. Registration will remain open through Friday, August 6, 2021.  Registration will close on this date to allow the Athletic Specialist to get approved lists to the coaches.

ParentVue Troubleshooting Information
If a parent is having trouble logging into the MCPS ParentVue Portal:
--If you have never activated your parent account: Parents were sent activation information at the beginning of the school year, which included an Activation Key. If you still have this information, use it to activate your parent account. If you do not have the activation information, email Teri_L_Gregg@mcpsmd.org.  Be sure to include the student name, ID and parent name in the email.
--Forgot your password? Click on the Forgot Password link on the ParentVue Portal.
--Forgot the email address you used to activate your account? Email Poolesville Athletic Specialist Regina_R_Grubb@mcpsmd.org. Be sure to include the student name, ID and parent name in the email.

Pre-Participation Physicals
Students should complete their pre-participation physical (MCPS Form SR-8) so that the medical eligibility form (last page of SR-8) and the covid supplement question sheet is ready for online submission or for electronic submission to the Athletic Specialist prior to tryouts/practices. Physicals are valid for one calendar year. A partial list of Clinics that offer Sports Physicals within the Montgomery County area is available online, including the Care for Kids program through Montgomery County.   Physicals can be uploaded by the parent during the registration process. However, if a parent needs to submit a physical after the student has already been registered, email an electronic copy of the pre-participation physical (MCPS Form SR-8) to Poolesville Athletic Specialist Regina_R_Grubb@mcpsmd.org. Physicals need to be submitted BEFORE students can begin participating.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the timeline for the start of sports?
The Fall season will begin on August 11th with tryouts/practices. The first few days of tryouts/practices information is here. Once teams are made practices will continue throughout the season. Coaches will communicate the times of practices with the team. The first contests will begin on September 3rd.

If a student participated in the optional summer conditioning workouts, does the student need to register for the fall season?
Yes! Registration through ParentVue is required to be able to participate in the fall season.

Is there a schedule of games and practices posted yet?
The practice schedule will likely be Monday through Friday and some Saturday practices.  Fall 2021 Tryout/Practice Information Coaches will communicate practice information with students through email and other social media applications. MCPS Athletics will release the game/contest schedules at the end of July/beginning of August. They will also be posted on www.countysportzone.com  and our booster/athletic website.

Will there be tryouts or are all students who register going to make the team?
This will depend on the sport and the number of student registrations. Coaches will communicate this information to the students on the first day.

Can a student try out for more than one team in the same season?
When registering the parent/guardian must declare only one sport per season. However if a student wants to change his/her sport prior to the start of tryouts, the parent/guardian must email PHS Athletic Specialist at Regina_R_Grubb@mcpsmd.org in advance of tryouts/first day. Similarly, if a student tries out for a team and does not make it (or decides to change sports after the first tryout date), the parent/guardian must email PHS Athletic Specialist. The coach of the sport will have to approve the move before the student begins.

Will transportation be provided for tryouts and practices?
Unfortunately, transportation is not provided to and from tryouts and practices. Students are responsible for arranging their own transportation. Additionally, students may not remain on campus for extended periods of time before or after tryouts and practices. They need to leave right after practice ends if driving or be picked up promptly at the end of practice.
