BSU is having an open forum discussing a range of topics during lunch every week of this month for Black History month. Today the focus is colorism; what is it and how does it impact everyday life?


The Poolesville Red Cross is hosting a personal hygiene drive from February 24th to March 6th and urges students to donate travel size toothbrushes, toothpaste, lotion, etc. The collection boxes will be set up by grade level and will be located in the Falcon Foyer. All donations will go to the Walter Reed Red Cross. For any questions, please email poolesville.arc@gmail.com


Attention all students! The National Honor Society is hosting a book drive. If you have any new or slightly used AP, SAT, or ACT test prep books, please drop them in Room 52 Mrs. Diaz’s room to earn NHS hours. You will receive one hour per donated book, with a maximum of 5 hours. Remember to put your name on the book so we know who donated it. Don’t forget, room 52!


French students and members of the French Honor Society are invited to attend a field trip to Mon Ami Gabi, a French restaurant in Bethesda. We will learn about some of the finer points of French cuisine by enjoying an authentic French luncheon. The date of the trip is Friday, March 20th. First come, first served. If you would like to pick up an information packet with permission forms, please drop by Room 57. Payment can be made by cash, check or online. See Mrs. Mazikins if you have any questions.


The Gaithersburg Book Festival is hosting its annual poetry contest for high schoolers from Maryland, Virginia, and DC! Submissions are to be one page, single-spaced and are due online on February 20th. You do not have to be a resident of Gaithersburg to enter. Up to 12 poems will be selected as finalists, with the top prize being $250. If interested, more information is available on gaithersburgbookfestival.org


The Choose Respect Montgomery Video Contest has been announced. Video submissions are due February 28, 2020. Please see the flyer and contest rules on the counseling office bulletin board or the PHS website.

College and Career Information:
The Apprenticeship Program at KID Museum is modeled on successful mentor and explainer programs in world-renowned science centers across the country that cultivate youth as facilitators for a comprehensive educational experience. KID Museum Apprentices:
· Work closely with Museum Educators to facilitate hands-on programming for children ages 4 – 14.
· Train to teach STEM and art-related activities, and learn how to interact with museum visitors.
· Have the opportunity to enroll in professional development sessions at the museum, in various disciplines (such as woodworking or 3D printing).

Poolesville Green, Inc. offers a $500 scholarship award to a Poolesville High School senior who demonstrates a commitment to our vision, “Building sustainability together.” Seniors are invited to submit a written response to the following prompt: “Poolesville High School is a certified Green School. The town of Poolesville has been designated as a Sustainable Maryland Certified Community. What new community project or activity would you propose for our community to increase environmental stewardship by PHS students and/or town
residents?” Please see Ms. DeOto in room 10 for an application. Deadline is March 11, 2020

The Poolesville Area Chamber Of Commerce will be providing one $500.00 scholarship to a Poolesville High School Senior who complete an Essay on: “Why small business is so important to the local economy Essay should be no more than 500 words and typed with a minimum font size 10. Please see Ms. DeOto in room 10 for an application. All essays should be submitted to Ms. DeOto, College and Career Coordinator at Poolesville High School by Wednesday, March 11, 2020.

The BigSun Organization is proud to be able to continue to help young athletes succeed in their academic pursuits. We are offering an annual scholarship to a deserving senior student. All student athletes are eligible for this award, regardless of which sport they are participating in. Their participation may be in any capacity, whether as a player, coach or official.

In sports news:
This Saturday the Swim team will defend their title at the State meet held at University of Maryland, College Park. Doors open at 2, but it is a crowded event, so you may want to arrive early. Come out and cheer on your falcons as they go for their 9th state title!
The Varsity wrestlers will compete at The 58th Annual Montgomery County Wrestling Tournament, hosted by Gaithersburg High School, Friday February 21st starting at 4:30 p.m., and Saturday February 22nd At 9:30 a.m.
