School Administration

Principal - Mr. Doug Robbins

Welcome to Poolesville Elementary School, home of the Tigers! My name is Doug Robbins and I am excited to begin my thirteenth year as principal at PES. During my tenure here, I have been overwhelmed by the unwavering commitment of our staff and parent community in providing our students with unlimited opportunities for academic and social growth. I couldn’t ask for a better place to work and feel extremely fortunate to be a part of such a dynamic school community.

Personally, I was born in Pittsburgh, PA and raised in Bucks County, PA, a suburb of Philadelphia. This fact explains my mixed allegiances to both cities as I am an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Philadelphia Phillies, Flyers and 76ers. College brought me to Maryland as I studied elementary education at the University of Maryland, College Park (Go Terps!) before receiving my master’s degree in administration and supervision at Western Maryland College (McDaniel College). I have worked in six elementary schools in Montgomery County serving as a 3rd and 4th grade teacher, staff development teacher and assistant principal prior to my current role.

I am married to my wife Andrea and we live with our two children in Frederick County, Maryland. My wife and I met when we taught together at Rosemont Elementary School in Gaithersburg. She is a second grade teacher at Little Bennett Elementary School in Clarksburg. Our son Chase is in 7th grade and loves playing, watching and talking sports, much like his father! Maggie, our daughter is in 5th grade and loves swimming, arts and crafts, and animals. As a family we love to spend time together outside and plan our schedules around whatever sporting events are going on.

For those of you who are new to our community, I look forward to getting to know you and your children and I look forward to continuing relationships with those who are returning Poolesville Elementary School families. We all have a lot to look forward to! This is destined to be the best year yet!

I am very pleased to be serving as the Assistant Principal for the Poolesville Elementary school community. I was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where I lived for twenty years. I am the oldest of three children. I am a lifelong Pittsburgh Steelers and Penguin fan as well as a Maryland Terrapin fan! I have been married to my wife Patti for twenty-two years and we have two amazing boys. Our oldest son Liam is 18 and our youngest son Jack is 13.

I am a “career changer”. After receiving my bachelor degree in Business Administration, I realized that my real passion has always been to become a teacher. As a result, I went back to school and received another bachelor degree in elementary education from the University of Maryland and went on to achieve a master’s degree in administration and supervision and graduate certificate in professional teaching standards.

I have been serving students in Montgomery County Public Schools for the past 20 years. My most recent assignment in MCPS was as the principal of Damascus Elementary School, where I served for five years. Prior to Damascus Elementary, I served as an assistant principal at Clopper Mill Elementary and William B. Gibbs Elementary. I also served as a classroom teacher and staff development teacher at Clarksburg Elementary. These experiences will afford me the opportunity to support the work of staff and school community in meeting the needs of all students at Poolesville Elementary.
