The Outdoor and Environmental Education Programs (OEEP), with offices at the Lathrop E. Smith Environmental Education Center, serves students in grades K-12 throughout the county. All MCPS grade 6 students participate in the OEEP Residential Program which centers learning around the ecology of the local watershed. In addition, the OEEP Day Program, which sees 11,000 students a year, offers a variety of single-day field experiences that help students master the grade-level appropriate content and process indicators using the outdoors as a classroom. The OEEP educators also offer professional development courses and workshops for teachers throughout the year.
