Gifted and Talented Identification Pandemic Plan for 2020-2021
(Updated March 1, 2021)
In response to the global pandemic and the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) current instructional model, the Gifted and Talented (GT) Identification process for the 2020-2021 school year has been modified. The Pandemic Plan for GT Identification includes universal screening for students in both second and third grades because current third grade students were not screened as second graders. In addition, students in Grades 5 and 7 who are new to MCPS or who have been identified for rescreening, will also go through the GT Identification process. Multiple measures will be used to determine if a student meets the GT criteria, including math data, literacy data, parent input, and teacher input. The 2020-2021 modified process will use measures for literacy and mathematics from both the 2019-2020 and the 2020-2021 school years in order to ensure that academic measures from before the pandemic are reviewed as well as current data. The CogAT™ cognitive assessment will not be administered this year.
