Sunday Evening Message: November 8, 2020

Schedule for This Week: Monday, November 9 – Friday, November 13

Tomorrow, Monday, November 9, is a student holiday, and there will be no live class meetings.  During weeks in which there is a holiday, the missed day’s schedule will occur on Wednesday, and there will be no check-ins that Wednesday.  As a result, this week we will have regular “A” days on Wednesday and Thursday.  We will have regular “B” days on Tuesday and Friday.  This Tuesday, November 10, is also the first day of the second marking period.  For the complete schedule for this week, please select “Daily Student Schedule Information” in the “News” section of the Northwest website (Daily Student Schedule Information).

Helping Families in Need in Our Community

Throughout the year our school receives a number of requests to help families in need in our community, and these requests typically increase during the winter months.  If you would like to make a donation to help families in the Northwest community, please select “Online School Payments” under “Quick Links” on the left side of the Northwest website (Donate to Help Families in Northwest Community).  Thank you for your consideration.

Proposed Framework for Return of Students to In-person Instruction

Last Friday MCPS released a proposed framework for the return of students to in-person instruction, starting in January.  This Wednesday, November 11, parents will receive a short survey asking them to indicate whether their child will remain exclusively in a virtual learning environment, or engage in a combination of in-person and virtual instruction. Both options would allow students to participate in in-person athletics and extracurricular activities. Parents will also be asked to indicate if their child needs MCPS-provided transportation.  For additional information, please visit the MCPS website (Proposed Framework for Return of Students).

Materials Distribution This Week

A small number of classes have 2nd quarter instructional materials that were distributed at the end of October, and teachers notified the students in the classes about these materials.  For families that still need to pick up these materials, please come to the lower parking lot between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm on either Tuesday, November 10, or Friday, November 13.

Collecting Photographs for the Yearbook

The students in our yearbook classes are working hard to publish a yearbook this year and will be periodically collecting pictures to make that possible.  Currently the students are seeking pictures of quarantine pets, workouts, summer fun, home workspaces, arts and crafts, how students are supporting sports teams, school/class spirit, and at-home fashion trends.  If you would like to submit one or more photographs, please follow the directions in the “News” section of the Northwest website (Submitting Pictures for Yearbook).  Please make sure that all photographs include only members of your household, and please note that we will not be able to use all photographs that are submitted.  Information about ordering yearbooks will be shared later this semester.
