Rho Kappa


WHAT IS IT?  Rho Kappa Social Studies Honor Society is the only national organization for high school juniors and seniors that recognizes excellence in the field of Social Studies.


PURPOSE: The Rho Kappa chapter at Northwest High School is a prestigious organization that recognizes, supports, and encourages students in the scholarship of social studies. Many Rho Kappa members are excited to list their Rho Kappa Membership on their college education.  Additionally, Rho Kappa members are acknowledged at the graduation ceremony by an honor cord and a special symbol next to their name in the program.



1. Applicants must have a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.5 or more.

3. Applicants must have a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.75 or more in their social studies classes.

4. Applicants must have completed 3 or more AP social studies classes.

OR Completed 2 AP social studies course and currently enrolled

5. Applicants must provide 5 hours of service to the Social Studies department of Northwest High School.  Members of the social studies department will direct Rho Kappa members in fulfilling the 5 hour obligation.  This obligation must be fulfilled by March 1st.  Failure to fulfill this obligation may result in dismissal from the society.


HONOR:  Rho Kappa is an honor society that holds academic integrity as one if its core principles.  As such, applicants who have been shown to be academically dishonest may not qualify for membership.  Similarly, members who have been shown to be academically dishonest may be dismissed from the society.


FEES: Fees are collected after applicants have been informed that they are eligible for membership.  Fees are usually collected around Nov 1.

Applicants must pay $5.00 in order for their name  to be recorded with the National Council of Social Studies

Applicants must pay $8.50 for the Honor Cord that will signify their achievement at their high school graduation ceremony.

It is preferred for both fees to be paid by one check.

If a member is dismissed from the society for academic dishonesty of for not fulfilling the service obligation, the fees will not be refunded.
