Longview School - PBIS

Longview has implemented PBIS.  PBIS stands for Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports. This research-based framework is used in many schools in MCPS, Maryland and throughout the county.  PBIS works to create a positive learning environment through having clear expectations for students, recognizing students when they meet expectations and supporting students throughout the way.

At Longview our expectations are the 3 B's:

  • Be Flexible
  • Be Present
  • Be Positive

Our expectations are for everyone in our school community. Our PBIS system has multiple ways to recognize students and staff when they meet the expectations:

  • End of the Day Hooray's: Five minutes prior to dismissal, any and all staff can publicly recognize a student for an achievement they had that day.
  • Brag Tags:  ANY staff member can complete a brag tag form to give to the student and send home so the family can also celebrate the achievement at home.
  • Golden Gotcha's:  This is a system to recognize staff. ANYONE can complete a golden gotcha form and place in the staff member's mailbox. A link to the Golden Gotcha form is here if you would like to complete for any Longview staff. At the end of each month a raffle is held for all of the golden gotcha recipients for prizes.

Longview has a dedicated PBIS team that meets monthly to continue to work on best implementing PBIS at Longview. For more information abot PBIS go to:  https://www.pbis.org/school/swpbis-for-beginners
