SGA MONTHLY NEWSLETTER - OCTOBER

Happy October Loiederman lions! Your school’s Student Government has still been working hard over the phone to help the student body! We understand how hard virtual learning is and how different life has become. This previous month the SGA has been trying their very best to ensure a welcoming and engaging environment despite being completely virtual. Here are some of the things we accomplished during the month of September:

  • Became more active on our social media platforms, allowing us to further engage with our student body
  • Hosted an interest meeting for our classmates who were interested in joining SGA
  • Created an ADL lesson which focused on the importance of Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month and what it is all about
  • Introduced + started working on a new climate change initiative hoping to bring awareness and eco friendly action to our school.
  • Worked with the 8th grade counselor (Sloane Guber) to create a mental health club giving students time to de-stress and to focus on their wellness and well being.

Stay tuned for more action and news in the future! This first month has been a trial and error of how online learning works/doesn’t work, but we got through it.  Now we are ready to rock this school year, online or in person!

Stay Safe and Stay awesome,

Calling all Environmentalists! SGA Kicks off Climate Challenges!

Calling All LMS Environmentalists and nature lovers!

Happy October LMS! The Student Government has been hard at work trying to find ways to combat and bring awareness to the big issue of climate change. It is a big issue in our world and the more people who know can help. As we all know, change and action are what gets stuff going! With that being said, the SGA wants to roll out some fun engaging activities that benefit the world and help stop the climate crisis. If you are someone who wants to help and be out in nature, this is for you!

The SGA will be rolling out our Climate Challenges that are engaging, fun, and beneficial to our world. We have 3 different Challenges that you can choose from. The Challenge will start on October 14, and will start for you when you fill this form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1kGo0Z88P6mJNz-CDjO79SLJHS9Ecd-JcY33qjn3muYs/

Once you have filled the form out and chosen your activity the challenge will begin. You have until Thanksgiving Weekend (40 days) to complete the challenge. Over Thanksgiving break, we will announce our challenge winners via Instagram!

_______

-Composting Challenge: Depending on the size composting can take up to 3 months or more so you might not finish but as long as you document it throughout the challenge, it still counts! Compost and document your process day to day up until Thanksgiving using this document: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1GULItuvePuLw_GphzVmAsiYuCTQpFmW8HGV_7HPQNoY/edit

Learn more about how to compost at home here: https://www.epa.gov/recycle/composting-home

Before Thanksgiving break, send your finished document to the LMS SGA at studentgovoflms@gmail.com

-30-piece trash pickup Challenge: Until Thanksgiving days pick up 30 pieces or more of trash around your neighborhood or any outside location each day. KEEP ALL THE TRASH in a bag so that you can take a pick of you and your 30 at the end of the 40 days to send to us for confirmation at: studentgovoflms@gmail.com

-No Plastic Challenge: For 30 days try to use 0 pieces of plastic including bags, bottles, and cups. This one is hard so the first 3 people to send us a note letting us know you finished the challenge and used 0 plastic are included in our Instagram. Learn about the effects of Plastic on the environment here: https://www.ehn.org/plastic-environmental-impact-2501923191.html

We hope that you take part! This is a fun way to engage with the school and the world around you! Like we said we will announce our challenge winners at the end of the challenge! As we get closer to Thanksgiving, we should all be thankful for our world and the nature around us that helps us survive. Stay safe and stay well!
