Update on Buses and COVID-19 Tests

Good afternoon LES families,

The purpose of this message is to follow up from the district wide messages regarding the unexpected bus driver shortages this week and the at- home rapid test kits.

**Bus Shortages:

As you know the bus driver shortage has impacted bus routes throughout the county. Below you will find the route that is impacted in our school community the rest of this week, AM and PM.

Route 5321 - Morning and Afternoon for the remainder of this week.

At this time, we encourage you to utilize carpooling or possible walking to school in groups. We recognize how difficult this is on many of our students and families and are working with the Department of Transportation to resolve this interruption to transportation service as quickly as possible. Finally, please know that your child’s attendance will not impact their ability to complete assignments and opportunities to receive access to missed instruction will be provided as appropriate.

A full list of impacted routes can be accessed here.

 **At- Home Rapid Test Kits:

These tests were sent home with students yesterday afternoon.  Here are the directions from MCPS with a few useful links:

  • Students and staff will receive take-home rapid test kits.  Parents are asked to help students administer these tests at home and to submit whether their child has tested positive or negative using the MCPS COVID-19 Reporting Form
  • Please report all results, both positive and negative, when using the rapid test kits distributed in schools by this Friday, January 14.
  • Please also continue to report all positive test results for students and staff that come from tests not provided by the school system. Any student who tests positive will be required to isolate for 10 days from the date of the positive test, or 10 days from the onset of symptoms, whichever is earlier.
