Student Service Learning Hours (SSL)

To learn more about the MCPS SSL program, please view our program overview at https://bit.ly/SSLOverview2020.

There are many SSL opportunities available during the month of October! Please share the information below with students still in need of SSL hours:

Changemaker Workshops (November 14 and 15, 2023, 6:30PM-8PM) - Join local and student activists in a virtual changemaker workshop as they teach students and parents how to effectively challenge social justice issues and inequities in their communities.

    • “Speak Up, Save A Life” PSA Contest (Deadline: November 17, 2023) - The Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office is hosting a Public Service Announcement (PSA) contest for middle school and high school students that challenges teens to create an original video to promote awareness of the dangers of opioid abuse or overdose and fentanyl among teens.

KindConversations - next meeting this Saturday from 10:30am-noon in Bethesda

It’s a new way to connect with others (and earn SSL hours, by the way!) We’re hosting a small gathering of people you’ve never met. If you’ve got a voice, we’d like you to come and share it!
We’ll get together for about an hour to discuss life.  No debating or arguing.  It’s not a test and it’s not a lesson.  There’s nothing to prepare.  It’s just cookies, conversation, listening, and maybe even a little learning about ourselves and each other. We’ll remind ourselves what it feels like to form new connections and find common ground.
We hope you will take the ideas and insights from KindConversations into your communities in order to build empathy and tools for dialogue. We believe there is a lot to learn from one another particularly when we experience the world differently. KindConversations help us make space for everyone at the table.
Please join us for facilitated discussion with about a dozen soon-to-be former strangers. Cross the great divide between not knowing someone and speaking with them.
What do you think? Come tell us.
(btw - Adults are welcome to this one too!)
