Highland Highlights

Welcome to the 2010-2011 School Year!

I hope that everyone has had a fabulous summer! Words can’t express how absolutely thrilled I am to be working as your new school principal. I can honestly say that my seven years here at Highland have been the most exciting and rewarding of my career. It is my goal to continue the tremendous success the school achieved under the leadership of Mr. Myrtle while collaborating with students, staff, and parents to take Highland into the next decade and beyond. The only thing that topped my excitement about being appointed principal at Highland was the news that my friend and colleague, Mrs. Michelle Piket, was coming back to school as our new assistant principal. Many of you remember Ms. Piket as our fabulous pre-kindergarten teacher last year, but prior to that she worked for years as a highly regarded assistant principal and central office employee. I am thrilled to have such an outstanding teammate on our administrative team.

School Improvement
Plan

Our draft of the School Improvement Plan (SIP) is being developed for the 2010–2011 school year with input from parents, staff, and administrators and will be ready for review by October 1, 2010. Copies will be available in the main office or will be sent to you on request.  The SIP explains where we will focus our efforts to enhance and improve instruction based on the needs of our students and parents, conduct parent and staff training, and use resources.  Parent comments help us clarify and refine our plan.  Therefore, we encourage you to review our plan and submit comments or suggestions to the principal by October 15, 2010.  Please call 301-929-2040 to request a copy.
