Multilingual Parent Focus Groups

Department of English Learners and Multilingual Education - Center for Applied Linguistics

The Center for Applied Linguistics (CAL), in response to the BOE’s request to examine ELD programs within MCPS, is conducting multilingual parent focus groups and collecting survey data from parents to gather input from families about their experiences in MCPS. Parent participation is completely voluntary, and all collected personal information will be held confidential. The purpose of this data collection is to evaluate various aspects of the English Language Development (ELD) program for Emergent Multilingual Learners (EMLs) as well as the instruction/supports for Latina/o/e in MCPS. This evaluation was originally initiated by the MCPS Board of Education on July 14, 2020.

Community organizations are working in collaboration with CAL to reach out to families to encourage them to provide input (e.g., MCCPTA and Student Achievement Action Groups). CAL shared multilingual recruitment flyers that can be used (available at this link) to share information and collect input from families. The deadline for parents to complete the survey is November 11, 2022.
