Community Message Week of May 11-15, 2020
Dear Glenallan Elementary Family,
I hope this message finds you all wrapping up a good weekend and time of celebration around Mother’s Day. We hope you enjoyed the two videos shared with you on Friday, including the Staff Appreciation Video and the Virtual Family Fun Night. Our staff was so touched by seeing the pictures of our students and families.
With Governor Hogan’s and State Superintendent Salmon’s announcement that we will continue distance learning until the end of the school year, we are committed to the continued level of engagement and connectedness that we as a whole staff are sharing with our students and families. We will be receiving guidance on the next phase of distance learning, and we will keep you informed. We will also be scheduling future parent meetings to share resources and answer questions from our parent community.
We have collaborated with our technology offices to distribute chromebooks and MiFi devices. Moving forward, if you need a new device or to exchange broken devices, you may go to 45 W. Gude Drive in Rockville for their direct family pick-up from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. every weekday. If this location does not meet your needs, please contact Ms. Cino and Mrs. Hirst directly at 240-740-0760.
We know that it can become frustrating when your child is unable to gain access to a live lesson. Our teachers have been great about supporting families, in trouble shooting, and providing updates about content and links. However, they will not be able to help parents & students once their live instruction begins. If you should encounter technical issues, please call 240-740-0760 and Glenallan’s "in-house" Tech Support Team will call you back, as soon as possible, to begin assisting you. You may also call MCPS’s Community Tech Support for the technical needs of any student or parent during remote learning at 240-740-7022.
Our teachers continue to do all that they can to keep the business of teaching and learning alive and well at Glenallan. Together, we will work through another meaningful week in this time of distance learning.

*May 11th - May 15th – Week 7 of Distance Learning - Week B
Every student will have the opportunity to participate in a class meeting and reading & math learning experiences live with their teachers. In addition, independent learning tasks will be posted for reading & math within the online classroom.
*Tuesday, May 12th from 5:00 - 6:00 PM via Zoom - GES Community Outreach Meeting. A separate email will be sent to the community with Zoom meeting information. This will be an opportunity for any parents, interested in supporting the growing needs of our own community during this time, to discuss and brainstorm options for support.
* Staff Appreciation Video

*Parent Feedback and Input Survey
While it's a challenge to picture exactly what our students' school experience will be like in the fall, parent input is still very important in informing our work and decisions. The parent input we receive through this survey provides additional information to help us plan in a meaningful way. Even if you have students who will not be returning to Glenallan for the next school year, please take a moment and complete this survey. We will greatly appreciate it!
*Kindergarten Registration is Now Online!
If you or someone you know has a child who will turn 5 years old on or before Sept. 1, please note that MCPS has launched an online registration/enrollment process to support families who wish to enroll their child(ren) in MCPS! This new process is for registration for next year's kindergarten class, as well as current transfers within MCPS. This new process will fulfill the need to eliminate visits to the school buildings and the handling of paper forms. *MCPS Meal Service Schedule and Instructional Materials for Students
MCPS adjusted its meal service program from operating five days a week to a four-day-per-week schedule. This adjustment is being made in an effort to ensure student and staff safety, and to reduce opportunities for the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus). The closest location for our families is Kennedy High School. Meal sites will operate as normal on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays. On Wednesdays, MCPS will provide two days’ worth of meals. On Thursdays, all meal sites will be closed. Meals will be provided from 11 a.m.–1 p.m.

*Specialists’ Schedule
The schedule for our Specialists including PE, Art, Media, STEM, Music and Instrumental Music is linked here for independent learning activities and virtual office hours. Each week our specialists have seen increased student participation. If you have any questions about accessing their office hours or content, please email your child’s specialist teacher.
