GMS Summer School Registration-Last day to register is May 27, 2022

  • Registration: In ParentVUE, April 4–May 27.
  • Summer School Dates: July 6-July 29, 2022 from 8:00-12:30.
  • Transportation: MCPS will provide transportation depending on distance from GMS
  • If you have any questions please contact Ms. Wolf at Meghan_M_Wolf@mcpsmd.org
  • Student Selection: Summer school is for students who are struggling with the major work of the grade level and/or are currently below-grade level in reading or math. Curriculum is designed to review the major work that was learned in the previous grade.
  • Parents will be contacted if your child is invited to register.

2022 Team of Stars Summer Camp

8th grade End of the Year Activities-Changes

June 10, 2022-Cookout and Student Recognition

  • On Friday, June 10, 2022, our eighth graders and their families are invited to a community cook-out at Gaithersburg Middle School. 
  • The event will be from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and will be held outside on the Gaithersburg Elementary School side.
  • Families will be able to enjoy music, games, free food, and community engagement.
  • Student names will be announced for them to pick up certificates and awards.
  • The rain date for this event will be Tuesday, June 14, 2022 from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

June 14, 2022-Student Recognition

  • A special in-school celebration will take place on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, for students who were not present at the cookout on June 10. Students will receive their certificates and awards for their academic achievements! 
  • This will occur during the school day. 

Revised-8th grade end of the year trip

  • The eighth graders will be going to BAR-T Ranch on Wednesday, June 8, 2022 from 9:00 to 2:30. Students will take MCPS buses to BAR-T in Laytonsville. 
  • The BAR-T Ranch location has the following activities for students: basketball, street hockey, soccer, football, gaga pit, playground, music for dancing on the stage.The fee for this trip is $15 per student. This includes transportation, entrance fee,  pizza and drinks. 
  • Students who need financial assistance should speak with Ms. Diggs, Ms. Bean, Ms. Swailes or Ms. Merrill Oben.  
  • Permission slips and money are due by Monday, June 6th to Mrs. Diggs. 
  • Eighth grade students must consistently demonstrate they are able to follow staff directions and behave safely to attend the trip. There is no rain date.

Student Service Learning (SSL Hours)

  • All Student Service Learning forms documenting service completed this school year must be submitted to Ms. Libert by June 3, 2022
  • Please note that after the 2021-2022 school year, SSL forms will no longer be accepted from previous school years.

New-Elective Option - Finance and Greenhouse

GMS has a new elective offering for 22-23 based on our current enrollment and course selections. Our current 6th and 7th graders should complete the form below if they are interested in this course next year.

Finance Course Description

The finance course will help students build core personal finance skills and learn real-world strategies to effectively manage their personal finances.  By the end of this course, students will have a basic understanding of personal finance topics and a foundation in the skills necessary to successfully navigate the financial responsibilities that exist in life.

Greenhouse Course Description

This course provides students with basic knowledge and skills necessary to pursue careers in the horticultural industry.  Students are introduced to the concepts of plant growth and development, plant nomenclature, use of plants in landscape settings, invasive plant species, and principles and components of Integrated Pest Management in controlling insects, diseases, and weeds.  In addition, students become aware of career opportunities within the green industry and the economic value of horticultural crops, products, and related services.

  • All students have access to free tutoring and 24/7 homework help to support success in their current courses/grade level, through two new approved tutoring providers, FEV Tutor and Tutor Me Education.
  •  As part of comprehensive strategies to mitigate learning disruption, all students will have access to these virtual tutoring services through their MCPS Google account, using Clever.
