Responsibility - One of the Character Counts Pillars!

Instructional Leadership Team:

The Instructional Leadership Team collaborates to communicate effectively with stakeholders, promote a positive professional learning community, support staff through professional development, model best instructional practices, and monitor School Improvement Plan goals. Staff members and parents monitor and evaluate action plans at monthly SIP reviews. The four goal groups communicate with other stakeholders verbally and electronically through meetings and monitoring sheets.

Ann Dolan, Principal

I am thrilled to be the principal at Gaithersburg Middle School. I am beginning my 6th year as the principal and my 33rd year in MCPS. I began my career in MCPS as a Social Studies teacher and expanded by experience by serving as an instructional specialist for technology, coordinator for special initaitives and assistant principal. I am passionate about helping our students grow academically, socially and emotionally. In middle school, we want students to participate in a variety of experiences that help them form their own identity.

Mr. Johnson

Darryl Johnson, Principal Intern

My name is Darryl V. Johnson. I am excited and proud to serve Gaithersburg Middle School students, staff, and community as the principal intern.  I am also thrilled to begin my first year at GMS as the 7th grade administrator.  This is my twenty-first year in MCPS, the best school system in the country!  I began my MCPS career in 2000 as a school counselor.  I have worked with some of the most amazing people at Kingsview and Redland Middle Schools, as well as John F. Kennedy High School.   My most recent experience has been as an Assistant School Administrator and Assistant Principal at Robert Frost MS where I spent the last fourteen years. I have also been blessed to share my student-centered philosophy while sponsoring a variety of clubs and organizations at each school.   My love for learning and education were nurtured by my mom, a retired educator, my brother and five sisters. I have one son and twenty nieces and nephews whom I love very much! My core values are based on faith, family, and the responsibility of leaving a thing better than when you found it.  In my spare time, I enjoy reading, sports (Go NY Giants!), health & fitness, traveling, history and helping others.  I am also a self-proclaimed “foodie”!  I love to experience different cultures through food.
One of my favorite quotes is by Abraham Lincoln and it sums up my passion to continue to transform the lives of students and my community. “I do the best I know how, the very best I can; and I mean to keep on doing it to the end.  If the end brings me out all right, what is said against me will not amount to anything.  If the end brings me out all wrong, ten angels swearing I was right would make no difference.”
