Verizon Innovative Learning Initiative

Forest Oak Middle School was selected to participate in the Verizon Innovative Learning initiative, a program which provides free technology and free internet access for all staff and students to help close the digital divide and enable transformative teaching and learning. As part of your child’s instructional program, staff will be using a number of core and supplemental applications (apps) to create innovative and dynamic learning experiences using MCPS-provisioned iPads. In order for students to receive their iPads, the following documents need to be completed and returned to school.  In addition, there is an online digital citizenship module that parents/guardians need to complete for the Verizon Innovative Learning initiative.  This module can be found in the parent portal or can completed during parent information nights on September 19th and 24th at 10am, 1pm or  6:00 pm.

Restorative Practices

Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) has partnered with RAND Corporation to conduct a study, sponsored by the National Institutes of Justice (NIJ), of school behavior management strategies, specifically restorative justice and positive behavioral intervention supports (PBIS). RAND will collect student perspectives using three surveys as well as observations throughout this three-year evaluation cycle.  Please complete and sign the parent / guardian consent form if you agree to allow your child to participate in the Study of PBIS and Restorative Justice in MCPS.
