Dear Forest Knolls Elementary School Community,

At Forest Knolls Elementary School (FKES), our motto is “Relationships Matter” and we take those words to heart in all our interactions. COVID-19 and the related closures of schools, businesses, and other services have put a strain on all our families in different and unexpected ways. It has been devastating for those of us who are out of work, sick or rely on school meals to feed our children.

As you know, MCPS is running a wonderful meal service program 4 days a week and collaborating with Manna Food Center to distribute weekend bags of food, but some of our FKES families are having difficulty accessing these services due to illness, transportation or other issues.  The PTA, working with the full support of our FKES administrators, hopes to eliminate these barriers for our FKES families by coordinating home delivery of food and other supports.

If able, please consider supporting this emergency effort in one of two ways:

1. Sign up to donate an item to contribute to a Mustangs Essentials Kit which will be delivered to the doorstep of any FKES family who expresses need within 24 hours of first contact. Should you select this option, we ask that you drop off the donated item(s) at your earliest convenience. Items can be delivered 904 Loxford Terrace and placed in the donation box on the porch. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/805094BA4A829ABFA7-mustang

2. Make a tax-deductible contribution at www.fkespta.org. Every dollar received beginning April 26th through the end of the school year will go towards supporting FKES families in need of food and other essentials. All contributions are tax-deductible, and the PTA will provide letters for contributions of $250 or more.

Most importantly, if you and your family are in need of food or other essentials during this time, please email food@fkespta.org or  text/call Kate at 301-404-8761 (English) or Stacey at 301-252-8707 (Spanish or English) or contact your child’s teacher to receive food delivery and support at your home.

You are a valued member of our community. We wish you and your family health, happiness and strength in the days ahead. We look forward to the next time we can be together at FKES!

Warmly,

Kate Waybright, PTA President

PS: Our next PTA meeting will be held virtually on Tuesday, May 12thth at 7pm. Translation available. Mr. Bernstein and Mrs. Denney will answer any questions you may have right now. We will be in touch as the date nears with specifics.
