A message from WILLIAM FARQUHAR MIDDLE SCHOOL

Dear Farquhar Family:

We are looking forward to increased student attention and cognitive engagement this year by providing opportunities to place equity into action, enhance the teaching & learning cycle, reintroduce effective analytical writing strategies, and educate all grade levels on the “Dimensions of Student Well-Being” (DSW).

This week’s update:

  • School Supply Lists are posted on our website (Click here)
  • Student Orientation: August 26, 7:45 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.  ALL grade 6, 7, and 8 students
  • MCPS transportation provided, see FMS website for bus schedules
  • All students will receive their locker, agenda book, and class schedule
  • Grades 7 & 8 will receive a new MCPS Chromebook, charger & carrying case

(if your student has already received a new Chromebook then they will not be issued another one)

  • Grades 7 & 8 students must bring their current Chromebook and charger to orientation.
  • Grade 6 students should have received their new MCPS Chromebook, charger & carrying case last year from the elementary school and will continue to use this device in middle school. On Monday, August 30, we will be issuing the new MCPS Chromebook to those students who did not receive one in 5th grade
  • All students should bring a backpack to carry items home
  • Principal Meet and Greet (Virtual): August 25
  • Morning Meeting: 10:00 a.m.– 11:00 a.m., passcode: fms, meeting ID: 853 6171 7387
  • Evening Meeting:  6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., passcode: fms, meeting ID: 895 4258 5141
  • JOIN THE PTA: We are asking all parents to stay active and engaged by becoming a member of our PTA and subscribing to the monthly PTA Newsletter. (Click here)
  • Outdoor Lunch Options: This year we have worked in collaboration with our PTA to provide additional space for students to each lunch that will include outdoor and indoor spaces beyond the cafeteria
  • First Day of School: Monday, August 30, from 7:45 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
  • Back-to-School Night:  September 9

  • A detailed Back-to-School-Night memo will be sent next week
  • Specialized meetings begin at 6:00 p.m.
  • School-wide event 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.

We are appreciative of the support provided by our community.  Together, we will ensure all our students are able to demonstrate their academic creativity and apply their knowledge and understanding to 21st-century demands.
